H&B
I had a Hepco & Becker Journey 50 top box on my R. (the R is sold now) It swallowed 2 full face helmets and looked like a factory match for the OEM side cases. There is a dedicated mount that bolts straight up to the BMW side case racks. Although more expensive than Givi stuff, it is a lot cheap...

In 1998 I was T-boned on my 1997 F650 at an intersection by a guy who ran a red light. The BMW system case probably saved my leg. In taking the impact, the frame got bent, but because the bike was so new it wasn't written off. The dealer ordered a new frame and stripped all the parts off the old bik...

Ergo's
I had the "comfort" seat on the R, and have the taller of the two seat options on the ST. Knees feel slightly less bent on the F800, and you are leaned slightly more forward. With the carpal tunnel problem I have with my right hand, I was concerned the lean might be a problem. With the alm...

5 Days later
Well, its five days later, and I've got about 750km on the bike now. Some general observations: I found that the 1150R had a vibration in the right grip at some speeds that numbed my right hand. The 800 is as smooth as can be with just enough of a hum to remind you it's a twin. The gearbox is smooth...

F800 arrived
After a couple of months of waiting, I picked up my new, blue F800ST yesterday. It is wonderful. To break it in I had a nice easy meander home on back roads. (When I told him of this plan, the dealer said I am a "Meanderthal"). There is enough of a hum from the engine to let you know it's ...

V Strom 1000 vs. R1150R
While I'm waiting to get home to pick up my new F800 next week, a few of us on the course I'm attending rented bikes and rode the Sea to Sky highway from Vancouver to Whistler B.C. today. I had a V Strom 1000, and although the pace was quite tame to accommodate a new rider (her second time on a bike...

I had to replace both my grips last year after they mysteriously split lengthwise, within a month or so of each other. First, remove the bar end weights. Using a utility knife, or better still, an X-acto knife with the sharp edge pointed AWAY from the handlebar, slowly push the knife from the handle...

Mods
Claimed horsepower is 85, but on a dyno most 1150R's come in at about 77+-. Shortly after I got mine, I put on a Laser y-pipe, bbPower FI chip, M-tec airbox inlet (50% larger area than stock) and RS inlet manifolds. After the mods I put the bike on a dyno and got 83hp at the rear wheel. Not bad cons...

Mileage
I usually get 280-300 km until the reserve light comes on. I've ridden 50km on reserve and still had a bit of gas in the bottom of the tank.

I have a TC50 top case with the mounting rack attached to the OEM BMW luggage rack risers. It's approximately 19"Wx15"Dx12"H inside. It's for sale since I'm selling my 1150R. I live near Windsor, PM me if you need any more info.

F800
There are a bunch of reasons I decided on the F800 as opposed to something else. To begin with I'm not a fan of big (RT / GT / LT) sized bikes. The additional comfort on those machines isn't worth it to me for having to deal with all that mass. Don't get me wrong, I think they're great bikes for tou...

Defecting
Well, since being member #2 on this board in 2001 (in the first format) the inevitable has happened and I've put down a deposit on a new bike. I'll be getting an F800ST that's scheduled to be built in April and delivery is set for May. The R1150R will get traded in. There is a lot of aftermarket stu...

Rear Switch
A couple of years ago I had this very thing happen. A small tar-covered pebble had lodged itself in the rear brake switch, causing it to stick on. Undo a couple of bolts to get at the switch and you should find the cause. I looked there first based on an earlier post on this board, seems it has happ...

You will be charged the same taxes and duty when you drive back across the border that you would be charged if you had the stuff shipped to you. By the time you figure out time, bridge tolls, gas etc, you're further ahead to get the stuff shipped. Just specify USPS instead of any of the courier comp...

All the F650 motors (F.I. & carburetted) have been made by Rotax. The early carburetted F650's were assembled by Aprilia. When the switch was made to F.I. BMW moved production to their own plant. The new F800 also has a BMW designed engine made by Rotax. Rotax engines have a reputation equal to ...

Norseman9; The 50 litre isn't that much bigger than the 40, but it easily holds two helmets, where the 40 won't. I usually only have it on the bike when travelling two up. I got the back rest for it and my wife finds it very comfortable. It's usually empty when we're on the move, and it gives us a p...

Hepco & Becker
I have a Hepco & Becker 'Journey' 50 litre top box which I like mostly because it looks like it is an OEM BMW item. In fact, a BMW roundel fits into the space for the H&B logo. It's large enough to hold two helmets and is very well made.
