Re: Fuel Filter replacement

In addition to the Boxermania advice, I'd suggest taking pics of the position of the parts before you disassemble things. And when you do take out the pump, pay attention to the direction and how far you twist it to remove it from the tank. The only real challenge in the job, is getting the pump bac...

Re: Clutch bleed screw or Speedbleeder size info EDITED

FWIW, I'd get the stainless steel version as opposed to the brass. I had the brass, used it once, then the next time, it would not thread properly and put bubbles in the system no matter what I tried. I could see no visible sign of thread damage, but ordered the new stainless version nonetheless, an...

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.

Love the new instrument cluster, the old one always looked like a slapped-on afterthought to me. I also love the new ovoid mirrors, the round ones are not very functional. I know it's the trend recently for cars and bikes, but I'm not a fan of the dark grey painted wheels. That to me just looks like...

Re: So, Leather or Textile

I've had the unfortunate experience of testing my gear against pavement twice. The first time, I think I hit some gravel leaning too hard on a nice freeway on-ramp. Not sure of the speed, but I lowsided and slid a good 15-20 feet. I was wearing BMW Savanna ll Jacket and Airflow Pants. I had no damag...

Re: I stand on the precipice!

Moonbeemer... You are me, I am you... If I could do it, so can you (hey, that wasn't meant to rhyme!)... seriously, follow those steps, you can't go wrong. It's alot easier that you think, and extremely satisfying! Sometimes, I think I now enjoy working on my bike as much, if not more, that actually...

Re: New 1150 owner - winterizing help please

Welcome aboard.......you have everything pretty much covered. Removing the battery might prove to be a chore, however, you can eliminate that step by attaching the trickle charger to the auxiliary power outlet (with the right adapter) or by removing the starter plastic cover (both found on left sid...

Really, to make it red? Good idea, I assume I could get that at an art supply store. I may just do that!

Re: yellow or red for rear indicators

Sounds like a good idea. I never thought about mine, like I said, but I'd have to buy the clear lenses first, and I recall they weren't cheap either. I'll wait for now, as I've had it this way for three years probably!

If for some reason you wanted to drop some extra coin for LEDs, I just found this.

Re: yellow or red for rear indicators

Seems like running the yellow/amber in the back is technically wrong, though the level of enforcement may be in question. Called to get red bulbs vice amber. Apparently The bulbs do not come in red, and there are no red lens covers either, strange. Any help with a part number would be appreciated. ...

I never thought about this, but I guess I have the same issue (brake light modulator that flashes turn signals. I have amber lenses and white bulbs, do they even make red lenses? Otherwise white lenses and red bulbs?

Here's the shots. I really need to ride at night to see if I like this. The blue looks cool, but I mainly wanted legibility at night. Note the tachometer, blue LED on left, OEM white bulb on right.

Re: Instrument Panel Lightbulb Replacement

I got it working. I think the connection isn't made until the holders are placed tightly back into the tach. I was unsure if the bulb was in correctly, so I rotated one and it sparked and burned out my nice blue LED! The good news is that now I have blue LEDs all around, except the tach which is blu...

Re: Torque Wrench

I scoured ebay for a while to find a good used SnapOn. I had a Craftsman Digitork and some cheap chinese made wrench and both stopped working before I knew it. I decided that you can't get away with a cheap brand when it comes to a torque wrench. Mine goes from 5 to about 100 ft lbs I believe and th...

Re: Instrument Panel Lightbulb Replacement

I ordered some replacement lights from superbrightleds.com for the speedo, tach and clock. I was able to take everything apart just fine and new clock light worked fine. As far as the tach, I plugged the new LEDs in and nothing lighted. I wanted to be sure I was doing things right, so I put the old ...

marsdog, From a longevity and functional standpoint, I believe the caliper mounting bolt location is not ideal. Here's the good and bad about that location The Bad: --The light assemblies and bulb filaments get punished by every road bump shock the front wheel hits. --The light's power wires are re...

And buy yourself a spare clutch spline and final drive assembly soon as well. You're going to need them eventually. A bit over-the-top way to welcome a new rider, considering the relatively small number of bikes affected, don't you think? > I have to admit, this statement freaked me out a bi...

Thanks for the info on aiming the headlight. Mine was much lower than it should have been and with time changing shortly, I'll be glad to have the extra distance! That being said, I just installed some PIAA Powersport Aux lights mounted off the calipers via Lumalink T-Link brackets. Anyway, is there...

Re: Some assurance please

marsdog, Those zip ties put to much tension on the wiring. After a while, they will sever one (or more) of the wires inside the bundles. It's happened way too many times to count. Cut them! Trust the community that has seen way too many: turn signal problems, hazard light problems, intermittent bik...

Now, to the point of this post. I have NO mechanical skill. Zero, nada. I'm a zookeeper for heavens sake. Maintenance will have to be done by the local dealership or a reputable mechanic. I will retire in two years and although I will be able to afford routine maintenance, any major repairs would a...
