Re: Potential problem

My steering dampener blew up a week before my warranty expired. While in the dealer I asked him to take a look at my clogged drainage pipe (the one inside the fuel filler cap) since I don't have any compressed air at home and the grass trimmer cord wasn't relieving the blockage. When picking the bik...

Re: Exhaust

I think you should get the MIVV so you sound like this guy:

and tell us all what they're like because I've never seen one in person :)

Might have been water bubbles under the gas in the shallow part of the tank. Even with a flashlight it's hard to see in there!

Re: Guess Where I Am?

At the 11,000' summit of Beartooth Pass in Wyoming last summer I didn't notice much power loss, though I wasn't really trying to scrape pegs up there either.

Fuel Filler Cap Gasket

As pointed out there are two issues here, and of of them is definitely a design flaw (though easily corrected) First , the drainage tube under the fuel filler cap can get blocked. This is an issue because significant amounts of water can get in your tank - when i finally peered into my tank there we...

Here's a ride report for Vancouver to San Francisco and back. http://dailyrider.blogspot.com/2009/04/san-francisco-dash-09.html I had a particularly good time riding through the Shasta-Trinity Forest area. Stay west of the I5 and you pretty much can't go wrong where you point the front tire. Of all ...

Re: OBC

+1 for the usefulness of the OBC. I'd recommend it for any new purchase. Although the oil warning is the only one that hasn't saved me grief at some point and that's probably a good thing. If you have no oil pressure it's like a warning saying "dude, you're already screwed." My favorite is...

Re: Performance

You have lucked upon the rare Rocket Ship Edition . Everyone I know with an 1200R/GS maxes out around 200-210kph ( 125mph ). Not designed for top end speed, you hit a wall with the gearing to power ratio and will be at redline in 6th around here. I'd be surprised if there were massive performance va...

Re: The Akropovic Tune

I reset the ECU this morning as follows: I did the reset too a few days after the Akrapovic install and it definitely runs better for me too. It was idling hot in traffic - now back to normal. I was also getting a tonne of popping on backdown (which was fun) - now back to levels consistent with the...

Great wisdom by all. Same goes for snow riding too except for the 'first flush'.

Re: The Akropovic Tune

it's pretty close to the volume of the OEM muffler, though that is a little subjective since I didn't measure with a decibel meter. I used a decibel app on the iPhone before/after and measured 100dB with the stock can and 102db with the Akrapovic. Conditions were an enclosed garage and blipping the...

Re: How hard to push the motor?

I love throwing high revs at our boxer and it always feels happy to comply. Keep in mind fuel economy and oil usage are directly related to a significant degree by how hard you push the bike. I range from 29 to 60 MPG and that all depends on riding style. Oil use is similar with zero to 250ml per 1,...

Re: Akrapovic Install and baffle (silencer) removal

What is the life expectancy of the Akrapovic vs the Stock? Found this from the Akrapovic site : The durability of the damping material depends on the type of motorcycle, riding style, mileage etc. Normally, single and twin cylinder engines produce a stronger exhaust gases wave pulse and a higher te...

Thanks for the information. Next question is where to buy one? Where did ya'll get t? I picked up mine from Bayside Performance For $792 USD . They are mail order but also have a storefront that I pickup from in Vancouver, Canada. Great group of guys that work there and I've always had good service...
