Moved to GS
Just to say that I have sold my trusty R after 30 000 miles and now have my leg over a GS. I have found this board to be invaluable over the years with the nicest and most helpful bunch of people on the planet. I hope you dont shout me down if I keep popping in for a look from time to time. [-o< Hap...

Re: Something to worry about?
Mine did that!! Pulled the boot back, cleaned out any oil with an absorbent cloth and replaced and have done about 15000 miles since and not had any more other than very, very minor seepage. No noticeable fluid loss either. I think it happened shortly after I switched to Full Synth in the FD. I assu...

Re: Electrical Fun...
Just my pennies worth but I seem to remember reading somewhere that if the battery is not 100% some of the electric will work fine and other circuits will cut out. Hence when you connect up the juice all circuits run fine - disconnect the juice and some of the non-essentials cut out. Just a thought....

Re: Cylinder head guards
Speaking as somebody who had the plastic BMW guards installed to prevent damage in a parking lot tip-over I am not pleased to know that if/when I remove them there is going to be the markings that you speak of, it sounds like a defect in the design. Aaarrrgghhh! Thanks to all who have replied. I ha...

Cylinder head guards
Hi - just a quickie as I think a dealer is trying one on me - and I hate to be had! I have looked at a newish 1200 at a dealer and there are black marks on the cylinder heads. Dealer says that they had guards on which they have removed (why!) but the bike has never been dropped. Can anyone tell me i...

Re: Another MPG issue
I consistently get between 50-55 mpg (UK) on my 2003 twinspark. I have got nearly 60mpg on a trip and speed does not seem to make any difference. I have a Givi screen and have noticed that the consumption is WORSE when I have the handguards on in winter. Could it be that the motor does not like oper...

Re: Help, I think I am screwed
I have just seen this advert from a local BMW dealer in UK. It's for the GS but almost admitting a previous problem with the drive train, which was the same as the R..... "Description The new B MW R 1200 GS is one of a kind. An unstoppable machine that offers unlimited freedom to the rider. It ...

Re: Could this be a spline problem.............or something else
This happened a few times many miles back ie when I had done less than 10 000 miles. I was sure that it jumped from 6th into a false neutral and then I kicked it back into gear. It has happened about 4-5 times in all. I have now done nearly 30 000 miles and it happened again after I bought new boots...

Iowa
Thanks again. I found one of the QD's was slightly apart - hardly noticeable. Pushed it back in and secured all together with cable ties and job done - less than five minutes Immediately started like a dream and no squeal.

Iowa - thanks for the heads-up. Looks like anything that can happen has happened before and is posted on this board!!
I will lift the tank tomorrow and start the diagnostics.
Thanks again

Screech or Squeal
HELP I went for a ride this morning and noticed (even through the earplugs) a constant screech or squeal. This was very ovbious even when stationary but idling. The bike is a R1150R (2003) When I got home the noise was still there at idle and appears to come from under the tank. I switched off and t...

Also watch out for Rider Fatigue because you will enjoy the bike so much you will spend hours in the saddle.

Re: Vibes
Thanks JM. I think it was #5 fuse. I have kept the O2 sensor and have also replaced the original cat and can and done the re-set - all to no avail.
How come when I unplug the motronic cable the bike still runs? Any way of testing the motronic wires etc after finding the chafing?

Re: Ear Plugs
I find that Spark Plugs are pretty good. They are soft enough to roll very tightly but remember that the ear canal runs upwards (nature's way of keeping water out) so aim the rolled up plug towards the top of your head to keep it from folding over. Noise attenuation is also excellent if you get it i...

Vibes
I have been trying to get rid of high frequency vibes that became obvious after I managed to short out the lambda sensor wires when changing the cat and blew a fuse. The bike now has the vibes and is also "snatchy" when rolling on or off on the throttle which is not pleasant in corners. I ...
