Re: Electrical weirdness!

We think of fuses blowing because something shorts out. A fuse can also go if there are loose connections somewhere in that particular circuit. When an electrical connection becomes just slightly loose there is resistance added that causes a slight increase in the amount of current flowing thru that...

Re: Shinko 705 mileage report

They are great for the occasional off road gravel but really don't handle like a good sport/touring tire. You are of course right but I knew that doing in. Not as smooth but they seem to grip wet or dry well enough for me. I ride a tad spirited but I don't try to keep up with some of my friends who...

So glad you found it. Reporting stuff like this helps us all when it comes time for us to do the same work.

Re: Toot...toot.

Good morning Sunbeemer, yes it did come with a relay. Pretty little red one. Was thinking about my oem horn last night. I'm sure there will be times I don't need the ear piercing blast from the Stebel, but just the beep-beep from the oem. I play with electronics a bit (maybe a lot...amateur radio fo...

Re: Toot...toot.

Installed the Stebel today. Tucked it into where the ABS pump once lived. Had originally wanted it on a separate switch and keep the oem horn as well. I couldn't easily (or quickly) find a suitable aftermarket water resistant horn button. So decided to use the oem horn button and basically ditch the...

Re: Shinko 705 mileage report

riceburner..

About the same as you mentioned...60-80 mph. I think I've brushed 100 once or twice. I'm very impressed with the 009 and 705's. I can get a pair delivered for about $175.00. Hard to beat.

Re: Shinko 705 mileage report

That is very good mileage Can anyone comment on other tire mileage I am new to the R1150R and wondering what I may expect out of my Sumiotmo/Dunlops Welcome to R ownership! I'm on my 2nd. On other street tires I would generally get 6-8K on the rears and 10-12K on the front. I've run Dunlop, Micheli...

Re: Shinko 705 mileage report

The 705 is a dual sport tire Just wondering why you use them Are they good for gravel roads With that kind of mileage I may try a set I run in to gravel roads sometimes and it may be a good idea to have them Yes they are great for gravel and that's why I bought them. Often times my back road explor...

Shinko 705 mileage report

I just replaced both 705's on my R. 15,100 miles front and 12,400 on the rear. I put on a new pair of the same. The rear was pretty well done. The front still had a fair amount of tread left but was cupped pretty badly. I've never gotten such mileage out of tires. Bike has a bit over 101,000 miles.

Re: Toot...toot.

The horns on my three vehicles serve to mostly tell my grandchildren that I'm waiting out front. (except for the bike----their grandma has laid down the law) My use of a horn has always been sparingly. I try to be patient with a distracted driver in front of me at a red light who doesn't see that th...

Me too! That horn button should be on top of the cluster......not underneath it.

Re: Toot...toot.

I've often heard good reports on the Stebel. I feel like my stock horn is ok but nothing spectacular. My LED lights pretty much alert drivers coming at me or preparing to pull out of side streets but that's it. Going thru Austin, Tx this past may I had occasion to nearly get run into a concrete cent...

Re: Oil leak diagnosis challenge!

Riceburner.....I saw your post a couple days ago but this didn't hit me until just now as I was re-reading. In the summer of 2004 I was about 18 months into ownership of my '03 R. I started noticing a very slight burning toast smell each time I stopped. But could find no leak anywhere. After about 1...

Re: Braided stainless brake hoses...Yes

I replaced the OEM brake lines on my '02 R1150 in April '13, the front line broke at the splitter where the ABS line would connect if the bike had it . I have installed Spiegler lines on 2 of my airhead R65's I like the feature that the banjo fittings have a slip joint, so you don't have a twisted ...

Re: 2004 R1150R Normal oil consumption

My '04 has 100K and uses maybe 8-10 oz every 4,000 miles or so. It has not been babied. As others have pointed out yours is yet to be broken in.
Ride it like you stole it.

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

Can't seem to get an answer using the phone number for Autoswitch nor get an answer on email. (emailed them a week ago) Wondering if they're still in business? I've a pdf on the Kisan schematic coming from them. He was very helpful on the phone. It's been difficult getting much time to work on the b...

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

A little update on my install. I found the right wire but my switch is grounded except when the switch is pressed. But there is also a Kisan SignalMinder SM-5 installed. That controls automatic signal canceling as well as some other functions. It seems there is something else to figure out here. Whe...

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

I've got the tank off, all sitting under the shade tree in front of my house. I haven't had success yet in finding the proper wire. But had to stop early today to be at work at 11. I'll consult my Clymer shop manual when I get home this eve.
