Re: My R of 13 yrs has a new owner. And me a 2005 RT.

I’m getting along pretty well. I go tomorrow for a follow up. I’m hoping I can get a walking cast. Short answer to your question is no. To be honest I had actually asked a friend if she’d like to go for a ride with me. But the more I thought about it I had to rescind my offer (hated that because she...

Re: Slipping Clutch - low miles

Glad that was an easy fix. That outcome was as good as it gets. The RT I bought a few months ago had just had the ABS and clutch serviced so I don't have to think about that till next year. I'm glad I still have my filler adapter funnel I made up years ago for my first iABS system. A bit of surgery ...

Re: Another broken leg

Crap Wayne, sorry to hear that! Coming to Hungry Mother on 4 wheels? And boy, do you have these guys fooled! Vann at this point I'm not planning to come. I hate that but sitting around in a cast and crutches is not much fun. Setting up a tent and all the stuff that goes with it is just too much wor...

Re: Another broken leg

"Another" How many times have you broken your leg This is #2. Interesting in that I broke the left leg in a similar but opposite turn. Was turning left out of the office parking lot in January '08, hit a very small bit of ice and back end of bike slid to my right. Broke left leg in two pl...

Another broken leg

Wednesday morning on my way to work at 7:30. Pulling out onto a busy road just like I've literally done hundreds of times. There was one small patch of fine gravel that I'd earlier seen many times (and made a mental note to avoid). Of all the clean areas of asphalt I could've hit I manage to miss th...

Re: Forum Functioning ?

I'm still here as well and check in a few times a week. There seems to be much less traffic than in 'the old days' though, not sure if it's the age of the bikes or if there are alternatives places that people have drifted to. I'm a week or so away from doing my first valve adjustment on my bike. I'...

Re: Plug Problems

He added that he lines up arrows that can be seen on the left side of the head. The arrows are inscribed on the back sides of the cam sprockets on top of both cylinder heads, and when they point outward horizontally that piston is at TDC. BTW, I don't remove the rubber plug to adjust valves anymore...

Re: My R of 13 yrs has a new owner. And me a 2005 RT.

I'm really enjoying it so far. In some ways I miss the R's quickness of handling and weight. But hopefully this will change a bit after becoming fully accustomed to the RT. A bit more weight higher up (seemingly) is apparent when pushing it over hard in a tight turn. One thing I'm realizing more and...

Re: R1150R tires again!

I ran Shinko 009's for about the last 50K when I changed to Shinko 705's (dual sport) on my '04 R. I switched to the 705 because of the occasional dirt and gravel road I'd find myself on here in Va. And I ran them out to Texas and back last spring. I was very happy with them. They're not as smooth a...

Actually a 50/50 mix of antifreeze (ethylene glycol) raises the boiling point of water by 11°. So there's a summer benefit as well to the service. :)

My R of 13 yrs has a new owner. And me a 2005 RT.

Found a deal I could not pass on. A 2005 RT with 44K and garage kept. Well well (alot) below all the book values. Plus it had some equipment the owner wasn't even aware of. Ztechnic exhaust, Signalminder, hyperlites, new Michelin Pilot 4's etc. In the past I had dismissed the thought of an RT becaus...

Re: Troubleshooting Starting Circuits

A battery can show 12+ volts on a kaput battery. But you put the slightest load on it and the voltage may drop to 8v or less. A multimeter (VOM) does not give any real useful info here other than to maybe read voltage coming off the alternator when the bike is running. I'm guessing your next questio...

Re: ABS Failure

I've a 2004 R. Not a Rockster but I can't imagine there being a difference in how (or where) the ABS got it's info. Mine has a mechanical cable to the front wheel hub for speed. I did not remove either ABS sensor (front or rear) when I removed my ABS system several years ago. With no ABS pump existi...
