Re: Replacement handgrips from China?

Never mind....found some from Germany that I can get quickly. I think made in Italy and probably the ones BMW buys. I should have looked further before posting this question.

Replacement handgrips from China?

Anyone ever replaced their worn out grips from ones like these? https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Handlebar-Handgrip-R1100RT-R1150GS/dp/B07DPCNP7P/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1537359877&sr=8-2&keywords=R1150R+hand+grips Look identical but from China (not necessarily a problem). But wondering ...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

Hard right or left plus bump would make me think about a fault within the wiring harness as it is zip tied around steering. Big history of too tight zip ties breaking wires.

I doubt you'll hurt anything other then just more clutch disc wear which still may strand you. Or even worse suppose you end up in a traffic situation which requires quick throttle and acceleration............might not be available. Probably ought to park it.

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

Can you unplug harness from side stand switch and just short the two leads? (assuming the switch is normally closed with stand up)

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

If that parts fiche is European then possibly those models are single spark as well. That same diagram (in dual spark) shows both coils, two plugs and related cabling. The below from Max BMW. https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMid/B0007699.png?v=07242017 Next one is a single spark fiche. Note one...

+ 1 to the 'glad' comment. But Towerworker, I beg to differ - this graphic from the RealOEM parts list is for a year 2002 Euro-version 1150 bike. Which has stick-coils....proving the fact that once more BMW USA AG is historically right up to current times, actually behind the times. As usual with t...

Re: Access to battery terminals? USB outlet wiring & mounting.

I agree with sweatmark......learning to confidently removing tank is a quickly learned skill. And necessary. I bet I've had mine off 30+ times in near 92,000 miles. I can remove it in 10 minutes or less. First time I was nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Took over an hour. If I coul...

Re: Stuttering on Reserve

My '02 1150 owners manual states the fuel tank has 5.3 gallon capacity .When the low fuel warning light comes on, it takes 4 gallons to bring the fuel level to the bottom of the filler hole . I've drained the fuel tank when the low warning light comes on and get a around .5 - .6 gallons . The fuel ...

Re: Oil on the exhaust cannister

+1 on what Rob said especially concerning the transmission seal. You didn't say anything about the smell of the burning oil. On an '03 R I tried switching the tranny to synthetic at 18K. Shortly after I had oil slowly weeping out of the shaft seal and burning on top of the cat converter. Smelled lik...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

No apologies necessary! No the '02 does not have "stick coils". The '02 and the '03 that I owned had one spark plug per cylinder and that was fired by a somewhat conventional ignition coil that was located under the tank. The '04 that I now own is "dual or twin spark", two plugs ...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

Unless he's got something really strange there are no stick coils on an '02. They hit the US market as '04 models as my service manager years ago told me. I bought an '03 new and it had single spark with a conventional ignition coil under the tank. My '04 is twin spark with stick coils on the primar...

Re: Snap crackle and POP!

My '04 and the '03 previous did what I suspect was the same thing. Only after a hot (90 degree day)run, cools down for maybe 15 min or so and then go to restart. I suspect a bit (at least in my case) of pre-ignition due to temperature.

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

Occasionally, bike sputtered on hard acceleration, from stop; it ran well after. I also noticed; bike will sputter after hard lean to the left side or right side. When bike returned to straight position and accelerate, it will sputter as it sucked some dirt or water. Afterthat bike will run great ag...

Another method.....lay bike over on right side......remove left jug valve cover and poor oil down timing chain tunnel. Goes much faster.....

Re: Purchased 2004 R1150R yesterday, suggestions neeed

I've an '04 with about 91,000 miles. Love it and a great bike. Let me make a maintenance suggestion. That bike obviously spent a lot of time sitting. Annual ABS system service is a MUST! Involves bleeding the entire system. Not difficult but can be a bit tedious. The iABS system pump (you hear a whi...
