Re: Am I imagining it?

I'll offer a guess here. Doug (member #1) pays for keeping and maintaining this site out of his own pocket. I don't know all the in's and out's of caring for internet sites but I've got to believe it can be costly. Possibly some stuff has to go from time to time because of lack of resources? I don't...

This seems to be helpful. Anton is in the Charlottsville, Va area and is well known for his work.

Re: Good Time to Ride

A bit nuts here in Virginia. No tp to be found although hopefully that will change soon. I'm pretty much ok there as I'm less full of ----- than many................... Today apparently all the fast food shops will be drive thru only. Governor is asking all over 65 to stay home. Glad I'm just 65.......

Re: Parasitic Drain

If you have to worry about parasitic current draining your battery y'all need to ride more.............. but seriously though....that's good info on reducing the current drain. I too have the SM-5. I keep a tender on my 680 for much of the winter even though I ride it often. The above instrument pan...

Re: Final Drive Vent

That vent has (or should have) a foam filter. Years ago my bike fell over and I later realized that filter became saturated with oil. Started seeing FD oil seeping out of the vent after the Fd heated up. The oil saturated foam would not let the pressure vent and as a result oil pushed out. I removed...

Re: Who-Da-Thought

I remember the name but never had one. I looked at all the offerings in 2007 when I bought the one I have now. I remember comparing wattage numbers and settled on a Warm & Safe jacket liner in '07. I remember sending them all the dimensions they asked for as they make the liner to fit specifical...

Re: Hand Grip Glue?

I replaced mine I guess very early 2019. I used the same procedure and even went out shopping for some hair spray (something that has not been a part of my life for 30+ years...as well as a comb). I've had no difficulties with the grip slipping. That's a puzzle. There are very light adhesives that w...

When you say the "throttle cable was way off at the bar", do you wean something was amiss at the throttle cable at the handlebar end itself?

Re: Alternator belt and a chirp

I replaced my belt last spring. But it needs to be re-torqued as mine will chirp a bit as well on a cold day. Sunbeemer I like your idea of home made tool. I believe I'll copy your idea! I'll keep it stored next to my R's antifreeze tester.

Re: $339 for Cables? How Can You Tell if They Need Replaced?

Not sure if this would help or not but DuPont makes a product called Teflon Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant. A thin milky white product that quickly dries to a slippery dry film. I've used it on various stuff, not the BMW yet as there's not seemed to be a need but it seems to me to be a possibility. Si...

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash

Here's a link to the procedure I used. When I say I goofed........what I did too quickly into the removal was cut the plug off the harness that plugs into the pump. You do not have to do that as long as the brake switch part of the circuit board internal to the pump is still working. (pull handbrake...

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash

You do not need to spend anything to remove and bypass the ABS. I made a goof on mine and had to spend about $3 for a brake lamp relay. Took me about day and a half to remove mine. (I'm slow with a bit of a hand paralysis issue. So I drop a lot of stuff) You do a little replumbing of the brake lines...

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash

At one point (after '04 models came out) BMW realized there was an issue with heat destroying the stick coils. A new and better protected/designed stick coil was made and subsequent models had those. One of mine failed at 40K or so. I replaced both. I guess a pair today may be close to $300. But I b...

Re: R1150R Starting issues/Brake light flash

I've never heard of a clock spinning fast upon startup. The clock does have a "fast adjust" mode but that's only activated by continuing to depress the adjust button on the back of clock housing. That is indeed strange. Possibly you've been told this already but one service you definitely ...

I want to wish all here on this forum Merry Christmas! I pray that this Christmas holiday comes to be the very best it can be. Christmas can be the sweetest and happiest time of year for so many of us. But sadly for many it's a time of sadness as they remember loved ones that are no longer here to s...
