Re: 2004 R1150R Normal oil consumption

My '04 has 100K and uses maybe 8-10 oz every 4,000 miles or so. It has not been babied. As others have pointed out yours is yet to be broken in.
Ride it like you stole it.

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

Can't seem to get an answer using the phone number for Autoswitch nor get an answer on email. (emailed them a week ago) Wondering if they're still in business? I've a pdf on the Kisan schematic coming from them. He was very helpful on the phone. It's been difficult getting much time to work on the b...

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

A little update on my install. I found the right wire but my switch is grounded except when the switch is pressed. But there is also a Kisan SignalMinder SM-5 installed. That controls automatic signal canceling as well as some other functions. It seems there is something else to figure out here. Whe...

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

I've got the tank off, all sitting under the shade tree in front of my house. I haven't had success yet in finding the proper wire. But had to stop early today to be at work at 11. I'll consult my Clymer shop manual when I get home this eve.

Re: question about bolt

Not sure what the ZNS3 is but the 8.8 designates a high strength bolt. Equivalent to a Grade 8 in a SAE bolt. Also probably a fine thread bolt. Pitch of 1.25 or 1.0. A pitch of 1.5 is considered a coarse thread. And yes a good hardware or building supply should have it.

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R

I'm glad you found that wire. I've got an Autoswitch laying in a drawer that needs to be installed. Couldn't find the cancel wire, got side tracked and it got pushed to the back burner. Time to move it to the front!

Re: Tire Mileage

I guess I'll put in my 2 cents. I've been running Shinko 009's for years. Switched to their 705 dual sport tire for some off pavement traction. Currently have about 14K on the front and 11 on the rear. Rear is almost done. Lots of tread left on the front but some cupping so it makes a little noise (...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve had my tank off
since replacing them. I don’t remember ever having an issue. I’m always sure to re-lube the QD’s prior to re-connecting.

How many miles on your machine?

On another note......I looked a bit thru "A Rockster Life". Incredible photos, and such beauty and history. I can't imagine what it's like to
travel where you have.

At 99K you're probably right. Maybe time to stop running break-in oil.

Some fuel mileage numbers....

I have always gotten what I considered good mileage compared to what I've seen others post. I got some pretty interesting numbers today on a short ride. A friend and I took off for a short jaunt before the thunder storms were predicted to hit early afternoon. Filled up here at home (93 octane-no eth...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

Hey I'd love to!....Not sure about the wisdom thing though.... I don't know what BMW has now for replacements. When they broke on my first R (an '03) they replaced them with the same things that broke. They stayed intact till '07 when I totaled the bike. I put them on my '04 quickly after I bought i...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

A fuel leak on the right side is very often a leaking quick disconnect. The oem BMW QD's were little more than junk and stranded many riders (myself included). If they are original you'd be wise to replace them with these:

Re: Bike starts conks out when throttle turned

Max welcome to the board! Give us more info if you can. Year of the bike, mileage, service history etc. Maybe a bit more on the problem too. Is the engine dead cold when this happens? If you let it idle a minute or two to warm a bit does it still die? Will it go above idle if you roll the throttle v...

Re: Excessive Heat ?! Please Help

Pretty well documented those header pipes near the jugs will get glowing red hot pretty quickly without airflow over the cylinders. If you're going to run the engine anything at all over a minute or so you really should place fans in front of the engine.

Re: My new 2002 BMW R1150R

Welcome! The R is a great bike. Dependable and pretty darn rugged. I'll turn 100,000 miles on mine within the next couple months. And there's lots of help on this site.
