Re: Travels with Blanche DuBois: The Robert Johnson Ride

Having sold my "R" some time ago, I don't get back to this forum as much as I should, so I know I am a little late to the dance, but it is always in the back of my mind to check from time to time and see if the Doc has anything to report, I wasn't disappointed, The "Robert Johnson Rid...

Re: replacing the battery

This is just my opinion,, but I wouldn't'' even think about not removing the tank, it is pretty easy, having the tank close to empty helps a little. not to add more workload but, If you are in need of having to change the quick disconnects now would be a good time, & I would also connect an elec...

Re: 50k bike: What to look for?

I've have well over 50k on mine, & as far as know there is not a thing wrong, & if it's not broke, I'm not going to fix it. depending on price, 50k would not bother me a whole lot, what price range are you in?

Re: Quick Disconnects - Are they necessary?

To veer a bit off subject...where can one get the replacement o-rings? :o :o :o locally and reasonable...$2.70 from BMW seems a tad high to me...I did spring for the stainless QD's years ago from Omega. I believe they were 5/16" and the numbers were FT-LCD 220-05 and FT-LCD 170-05 quanity 2 of...

Re: Quick Disconnects - Are they necessary?

I realize that money can be tight, & $100 on quick disconnect can seem a waste, but that same $100 can seem a bargain when stranded 400 miles from home, Mine went at about 40k, I was at a gas station about 20 miles from home, a simple call & a truck & trailer was on the scene, (lucky!!) ...

Re: Quick Disconnects - Are they necessary?

A couple of years ago in an emergency we used one of these to repair a fuel line, as far as I know it is still being used, (I now carry a couple in my tool bag)

Re: Where to mount a thermometer

will it fit in place of the black plastic stopper in the center of the triple tree? Probably. I had a wunderlich one mounted there on my 1150 Ditto, Wunderlich, "PoP" the cap & it slides right in, not sure about the Flomotion http://msnden.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/mnnden-Motorcycles/i-...

Re: engine oil 1150R

This is just my opinion, I don't think it makes any difference, again just my opinion but I prefer non-synthetic, esp in the final drive, I have read where BMW has put their stamp of approval on synthetics in both the trans & final dr., so I'm sure it would probley be fine, I change oil quite fr...

Re: Oil Change questions

The above post misses out an important bit. After a run you should leave the bike on its side stand for 5 minutes so the oil in the cooler drains into the sump. You then put the bike on the main stand on level ground to check the oil. If you don`t leave it on the side stand for a while first you wi...

Re: Shad seat question

I also am getting older so I understand that well. I like my R1150R, but sometimes long for a heavy touring bike again. But I have no time to tour anyway so what the heck. Someday maybe a K1600GTL. I'm up there in age also so I know what you are talking about, I really enjoy the "R" &...

Re: Travel Stickers, Dorky Question

I'm in the minority, I think the "Sticker" can go with any of the riders bikes, I could argue either way, but, stickers lead to conversation, & it is the rider who tells the tale! I am not a huge fan of stickers but I do purchase them every once in awhile & when I take the time to ...

Re: Shad seat question

It has been my experence over the years, that buying a seat is (at best) a "Crap shoot" Of all the MCs I have owned over the years I have found the "R" to be about the best for me in the seat department, (However we are all different) Before I would purchase a "High Buck&quo...
