Re: cost of ownership
Hi Bruno thanks for the advice. I ended up pulling the trigger on a 1200GT three weeks ago and you are absolutely right about the bike. As good as the roadster was the GT is fantastic, smooth, powerful, and stable. It is in a class by itself.

Re: Another MPG issue
It just goes to prove that these bikes like to be run the more the better. Good tires, regular oil changes and clean air filters are really all that is needed to keep the ride sweet.

Anything under the mid forties in normal riding indicates some sort of problem. Check tire pressures, air filter, spark plug condition, fuel system etc............

Re: Startup procedure
The fast idle lever is by no means a perfect system but its what we've got on a "cold blooded" bike. On really cold days I will fire the bike up on full "choke" then ride a half mile or so with the fast idle lever in the middle position by which time the engine is up to normal op...

Re: 12K Maintenance Schedule Items - Are All Required?
A well maintained beemer will run, look and sound good if it doesn't no amount of receipts will make it any better. Most maintenance can be done at home with reasonable care and skill and the patience to figure out how things are laid out. I let the local shop sync the injectors and read the fault c...

Re: Do "throwover" style saddlebags work OK?
I too use the small version of RKA bags and have for the last 56000 miles. They come on and off in minutes are expandable and I have never had any clearance issues with anything. One reason I don't like using hard bags is that as a commuter in Ca traffic I often split lanes and system bags are just ...

Re: My Final Drive Story: What Should I Do?
Wipe the area clean with some wd 40. Get on the bike stop fretting about the drive put 1000 miles or so on it then check to see if all your fluids or still where they are supposed to be. Chances are they will be these bikes are meant to be ridden not worried about................tkm

Re: Potential R1150R Owner!
My experience with the R is that it felt a little awkward in the beginning but has been the best bike I've ever ridden since I got used to its quirks.

Check the coils. Sounds a lot like mine did until the bike would not start at all.

cost of ownership
Hi all. I currently own an 04 1150R but am considering getting a four cylinder. I realize the K bikes have lots more power but was wondering how much they cost to run. I average about 20.000 miles a year and do much of my own maintenance . I'd like to know how the the two bikes compare as far as fue...

Re: Earplug Preference: Anyone tried Cabela's moldables?
I've had very good luck with "swimmers earplugs". They mold to any ear shape, can be reused often and you can pick up at a pack at Target or some such for three or for bucks.....tkm

It will fit the R with a little fine tuning. I had a pair on mine but ended up selling them because they didn't really do much for me. As always your results may differ..........................TKM

Re: Lovely now she won't start
Sounds like you may have cooked the primary coils with the jump. To find out: with a charged battery see if you get any spark from the primary plugs by laying them against a ground and cranking the engine over. Then pull the secondary plugs ( the small ones)and repeat the test. If neither one sparks...

Re: Electrical Gremlin?
Based on my own experience with something very similar I would say the primary coils are the culprit. Mine kept working some 4000 miles after the incident albeit with a high speed miss before giving out completely . Good luck.................tkm

Re: replacing Stock air filter with K&N
I ran a K&N for a couple of years on an 04 1150 R. I never noticed any performance gains but mileage suffered and the bike tended to run hot in warm weather. I have since switched back to the stock air filter and the bike is its old pleasant self again. Just one man's experiences yours may be di...

Telling the wife
Big mistake. You should have let the wife choose the bike while subtly steering her toward the one you really want. Its much easier than trying to explain a done deal. Good luck.
