Re: First gear hard to engage

I had a similar issue with my 2001 R1100R and I finally figured out that if you push down into 1st gear when coming off neutral and hold the pressure a half second longer that would be normal on most bikes, it stays in gear every time. I think most people are like me and have developed a habit over ...

R1100R Suspension Options

Hello insightful and helpful BMW riders I ride a 2001 R1100R with almost 50K on the clock. The springs have sprung on the old girl and it is time to buy some new suspension. What are my options for decent aftermarket products? I'd like something that can be rebuilt down the line as I made the mistak...

You all are too young to hate so much. I don't hate, but I'm dismayed by intolerance. I seldom come back to this site because of this attitude. I can absolutely gaurantee that all of us have had our parents do things to us while growing up that would make us "modern folks" cringe and hate....

Add me to the list of victims of the factory wiring harness. I would look for the tightest crease in the loom as it comes out from under the gas tank. I was able to stick my ear up to the harness with the ignition on, but the bike off, and hear a slight "tick" from the harness when I moved...

To me it is a clear case of failure of the clutch switch. The clutch lever works a small switch, just like the brake lever works the brake lights. If you are in neutral you don't need the clutch to start the engine. If you are in gear, it wants to know the clutch is pulled. if the switch fails, it ...

sling that R

I haven't tried this trick with the R, but in the past when I had a project bike in the garage I would a run a couple tie down straps from the joists in the ceiling and hook them to the front and the back of the bike to make a sling. Seemed to work fine and even if I bumped the bike or had to crank ...

They do not connect in the middle. They stop when they come back to the seat.

Thanks for the reply - I didn't specify in the original post but I had the stand up. Even when it was new, the bike would not start with the side stand down regardless of the clutch/gearbox position. :( I've been on the bike for 4+ years so whatever changed isn't an operator issue - ask my wife, I'm...

R1100RL pic

I didn't do the pinstripes but I have 2001 limited edition with factory stripes. I like the look a lot.

Starter interlock?

A few days ago I got on my 2001 R1100R and pulled in the clutch and thumbed the starter and nothing happened. I checked the kill switch (back down everyone, this is NOT another "to kill, or not to kill switch" threads), and it was in run mode and the dash lights were on and bright and I ha...

Ignition reset procedure

I searched a bit and came up empty screened. What is the procedure to reset the motronic after removing the CCP? I pulled the 5th fuse and then what? I remember something about blipping the thottle with the key on... :?: :?
