Re: Removing spark cover R1200 DOHC

Gentlemen, Thankyou for your replies. The information is exactly what I was looking for. I will make up a tool as suggested and also watch the cover does not fall on the ground when removed. Your advice is very much appreciated. Thankyou all for taking the time to provide the information. Boxer04

Re: Removing spark cover R1200 DOHC

Naked rider
You are correct. Just want to remove the plastic cover on the metal valve covers. Do I just grab the bottom and pull hard? Seems very tight to me (relative to my R1150R Twin Spark)
Thankyou

Re: Removing spark cover R1200 DOHC

Roger, Thankyou for the quick reply. I have a Marc Parnes tool (use for R1150R to get coils off the spark plugs) but the cover I need to get off is the outer cover on the DOHC motor (2011). This plastic cover runs vertically down the valve covers where on other motors was (more or less) horizontal ....

Removing spark cover R1200 DOHC

Hi all, I had no trouble removing the plastic spark plug covers on my R1150R (twin spark) or doing any service on it. To remove covers simply put pressure on the back edge and pull. How do you remove the spark covers on the R1200 DOHC? Very tight and seems something will break. Any advice would be a...

Re: R1150RT Left Case used in a R1150R without the OEM exhau

Hi DJ - Good to hear you still have (and riding) your immaculate looking R1150R.

I still have mine - within a whisker of 100,000 Km now. Bought it new 6 years (and 3 months) ago. Just great motorcycles for touring.

Re: ABS service

This write up is excellent and will be of great service to those who like to do their own work. I did my full bleed/fluid change a few months ago. My advice is simple - the precess is broken into stages so turn the rodio off in the shed; concentrate on the stage you are at and take ...your... time. ...

Re: Poly V-belt installation

Hi all, I used the CycleRob method about a year ago (at 60,000km). It took some effort. I had to place myself on the right hand side of the bike; place the sandpaper under the belt (abt 3 o'clock); use a socket wrench and (the hard bit) push like hell on the belt when turning the motor over to make ...

Shift lever - hidden keeper spring - photo reqd.

Hi all and particularly CycleRob, Some years ago a photo was posted (by CycleRob, I believe) of the components for adjusting the gear shift lever. It showed the little curved keeper and adjusting nut and ball cups. I cannot find my copy. I am trying to explain the details, via email, to a friend in A...

Re: Still waiting for my front Michelin Pilot Road 2

I have had the same problem as DJ. The front was much worse than the rear. The vibration for me was only on low speed corners and you could feel it clearly. Even went and showed the tyre dealer and asked about tyre pressures etc. Seems "a lot of them do that" I could not get a PR2 front wh...

Re: Valve Adj Question

I found the the supplied plastic coil puller very unreliable. It could work if you had a third hand to hold the ends together - they have a tendancy to spread and slip off the coil. I do not like using long nosed pliers or levering out the coil with screwdrivers as I like to get a square extraction ...

Re: My bike's spline lube disassembly

CycleRob,

Thankyou for posting such a detailed and logical report. There is a lot more practical detail and information in your work than anything else I have come across.

A very useful piece of reference material.

Much appreciated

Re: Poly V-Belt (Alternator Belt) Replacement and Tensioning

I replaced my belt and tensioned it from the front. I could not access it well from the back as shown in the manual and I did not want to take the tank or oil coolers off. I use a 3/4 inch long internally threaded joiner ( i.e.female) and a hex headed bolt that fits into it. Both are 8mm and can be ...

Re: Tyres

Hi DJ, I have a set of Pilot Road 2's on my R1150R and I have the same experience. I have looked at them closely and it seems the side is wearing quicker than the centre. At about half an inch (12mm) from the centre of the front tyre it is clear the section is worn more than the centre. In fact at c...

Re: R1150R TB Vacuum Tubing

I use 4mm tube on the TB synch manometer I made up. Fits nice and tight. I also made a couple of seals for emergency if i damaged one when taking one off to do the synch. Cut a bit of the 4mm tube and flame heated the end and squeezed ends together. Reason I did this was that I noticed one of the ni...

Re: Side Case Clean-up?

I have used extremely fine wet and dry paper for initial clean up. I then use a good Ameican product available here (Australia) called 303. It has NO SILICON and protects the cases from the harsh effects of the sun. I like it and it works for me. I clean the cases and rub with 303 every couple of mo...

Buckeye Beemer I have a October 2004 build date model with ABS. All the information supplied to date on your question is good. I, like others here, get the ABS serviced/checked every couple of years. One suggestion that you may consider is that if you take it to a dealer for a pre-purchase check or ...
