New lid review: Shoei X-Eleven

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Shoei X-Eleven. I have a "Shoei head" and have worn the "RF" series since the RF-700. For 2 1/2 years I've worn a RF-1000. The RF-1000 is a fine helmet, but I've dropped it multiple dozens of times, the rear vent mechanism broke after a recen...

My advice is a touch of patience for a good used R1200RT with papers and service stamps intact. But since the 1200RT is still in its first production year, you won't find it for a while. If you could wait through another summer season, you're likely to find low to moderate mileage (10,000 miles or s...

Too bad you had a bad experience. The Harley dealership near me certainly doesn't highlight the Buells. A little over a year ago they had them upstairs in a jury-rigged showroom that you wouldn't even know was there unless you asked. Now they're off in a corner that takes up maybe on-tenth of the fl...

Bought a new bike today.

New to me, anyway. I've never bought a brand new bike. Something in me keeps me from doing it. But today I got a 2005 R1200GS with 12,064 miles on it. Its completely stock, very clean, and had all papers and service stamps. The warrantly is good through August of 2007. Why a 1200GS? For one, I had t...

You folks are quite right, that is not the stock screen. They had the stock screen available, though. I put it next to the screen on the bike and it was several inches shorter and a couple of inches wider. The salesman explained that the former owner was 6'5" feet tall. Little wonder, then. He ...

I test rode an R1150RS today. My impressions.

Here's the ad from cycletrader.com showing the bike I rode. I gave it a good 40 miles including up to 85 mph into a stiff wind, and some two lane roads that were moderately twisty. My impressions of the R1150RS relative to the R1150R: - Its more refined. The bike seemed a lot smoother when shifting...

I wouldn't consider it because I don't want an auto bike, and the feet are too far forward for my tastes, but its a Honda so you know it'll be smooth and reliable.

I tried several pair of boots before buying and settling on the BMW Contours. They're great. As to the Sidi Champions, I'm sure they're a well made boot, but the Sidi's are a pain in the rear because the clasps are on the outside of the leg. Among the wonderful thing about the BMW Contours is that t...

I wear them when I know I'll be on the highway longer than a few minutes, which means I nearly always wear them. I buy mine from the local shooting range. I buy reusable ones that cost around $5 to $10 per pair. They come in small plastic cases that you can keep in your tank bag. I believe I have th...

Any experience with the R1150RS?

I've always thought the R1150RS was the prettiest of the beemers, so I'm lusting. But I haven't ridden one. I'd like to know if anybody has ridden both it and the R1150R and, if so, could compare them. I'm interesting in anything you may know, but particularly the angle of the knees and the body's r...

Every German vehicle I have ever owned -- including 3 VW's, a Porsche 911, an Audi A6, and the R1150R -- has run better in cold weather, without exception. Strange. As a long time Mercedes and BMW cage driver I must agree. The cars seem to come into their own in the cooler weather. Same's true with...

If a stock beemer can sets off a car alarm, then the problem is with the car's owner, not you or your bike.

Re: Strange Encounters Of The BMW Kind

Do you think he was aware of the logo referring to BMW motorcycles , not cars? I've found that a lot of those folks who get bent out of shape about non-American cars don't care a bit if people buy a Japanese motorcycle (as they probably don't know BMW makes motorcycles). So what is the strangest enc...
