Mine stands out in the streets of London all day after I have commuted in. There has been no tank discolouration so I wouldn't worry too much. Mine did discolour when the fuel expanded on a hot day and rather than go down the overflow tube, started seeping out over the tank. I had a brown spider lik...

Welcome. Some advice from a fellow UK Ed80 rider (that rides it all year round): 1) don't touch the tank with polish - it's a matte finish and goes shiny if you polish it - even if you try and do it lightly. 2) keep the fork legs and fork bridges coated with a film of WD40, ACF50 or equivalent. A qu...

I guess no one sits holding the clutch in whilst in Neutral but I certainly used to fall in the trap of anticipating the traffic light change or gap in the traffic, pulling the clutch in, then waiting for the actual light change before dropping the bike into gear. I soon discovered that if you do th...

If you hold the clutch in for more than a second or so at stationary, you will struggle to engage first. If you get into the habit of leaving the clutch lever out whilst in Neutral and only pulling the clutch in immediately prior to first gear engagement, you should find that it will go in first tim...

My Gearbox too is rather Grey and faded. However, a quick wipe of ACF50 or WD40 soon has it looking like brand new (until I next wash it and the shampoo removes the thin film of protectant). Also, this winter is really causing me grief with the black finish on the cylinder heads. Which muppet at BMW...

LandRover 1 v Rockster 0
Poor old RiceBurner had a big "Off" a few days ago. He has a broken hand and lots of tender bits, but otherwise he's OK. The same cannot be said for the Rockster. The full story and pics can be found here:

Yes it does. There's a specific triangle of stainless welded to the side to act as a bump stop for the centre stand.
Here is a picture of one:

Not sure that it allows me to see any more. My happiness was that I can be seen better by other road users and look more convincing to oncoming traffic (instead of looking like some scooter who's alternator is struggling to light its headlight bulbs). As an added bonus, the bike looks better with tw...

Side Light Bulb
My rear number plate bulb blew last week. When I took the old bulb out, I was surprised to see a mini halogen bulb, known as an H6W. I didn't have one to hand so I used an H4W, the same bulb used as the side/ parking light in the smaller of the two headlight units. When I got round to buying a new H...

If the other party is at fault then your insurance company's policy re replacement vehicle has nothing to do with it. If it was your fault then a different story. Sounds like you need to get the legal assistance crowd involved to fight your corner. Replacement bike is only the start. You should be g...

Occassional track days only. I'm very surprised to hear people claiming they don't have floating disks. They may think they don't but I bet they do. Every exploded diagram I've seen in any Boxer Repair Manual, including 2003 onwards EVO Integral ABS use the same system - a top hat shaped bush and a ...

All of which is great. Except the rotor bolts on our bikes aren't even remotely tight to the rotor. So they can grow considerably with no impact. Unless the US bikes are made different, my rotors are located by some large stainless steel bushes (note SS - put there by BMW) and wavy washers. Its call...

Looks a bit slab sided with that large, flat, constant width fairing panel. In the paler colours it looks truly horrible. The front three-quarter shot of the dark bike looks pretty good though. The headlight seems to look more natural than on the K1200S where every line appears to conflict with all ...
