Re: What seat are you using on your R1200R

Mine came with the standard height stock seat, and unfortunatley for me it was a real butt buster. After one season of riding I ordered a Sargent seat. It solved the problem of the seat being uncomfortable, but the cover on it causes me to keep sliding forward. Recently went to Demo Days and took ou...

Re: How satisfied are you with your Dealer?

Ok guys and gals, final call to hear your thoughts before I post my own in a day or two. Once again, if you are worried about someone from your dealership reading your comments (and holding them against you) please send me a PM. To date, only one PM from a member whose experience has been worse than...

Re: Battery or electrical?

Battery died after one year, but under warranty at no charge. It was replaced with the same brand as that was all the dealership had (or possibly is allowed to sell).

Re: If you had to get rid of your R1200R

I would almost certainly be looking at the 1200GS. It's taller and looks much more comfortable for someone of my height.

Re: How satisfied are you with your Dealer?

Interesting so far, the number of responses is relatively low compared to the number of views. Thanks to all of you who have given their input on this subject. I will say what my experience has been, as well as feedback I've received in person from other owners I've encountered. Just wanted to throw...

How satisfied are you with your Dealer?

Greetings everyone, After needing service on my bike last week, and thinking about conversations I've had with other BMW owners over the last several years, I would like to find out how the members here feel about their dealership. This is just a general inquiry, no need to mention the name of the d...

Re: Need advice on new bars - barbacks are not cutting it.

Peter, From your post I'm assuming that you are on the taller side like me. I also found the Moto-Tech risers (same size) were not enough. My dealer suggested Speigler replacement handlebars and that made the difference I needed. Check out this link: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/handlebars.cfm I c...

Re: Sargent seat - about to go for it.

Hi Don, Thanks for your input. I got the stock height seat from Sarent. Although it looks about the same, the curve up at the back of the pilot seat feels steeper than the stock one. With the old seat I could slide back while riding to get into a more comfortable position. Now I have the stand up an...

Re: Sargent seat - about to go for it.

I received my seat back from Sargent about 2 weeks ago and it seems fine to me but I have not had a chance to actually put on my bike to try it yet. Bike is away in winter storage in a friend's garage, I hope to get over there this weekend to put the seat back on and actually sit on it on the bike....

Re: R12R Test Ride

I test rode a F800GS last year at the dealership's test ride day. This was just about a month after buying the R1200R. I admit that I had a blast riding the F800, and would definately have one as a second bike - if I could afford it. The ride convinced me even more that I traded up to the right bike...

Re: Don't know what I don't know

Welcome Alan, I bought both of my bikes off the showroom floor because they happened to be almost exactly what I was looking for. Some options like a higher seat for one bike and the sport windshield for the current one were no problem for them to get in short order. My impression from talking to th...

Re: Hello from SoCal!

Welcome Tom. I hope you are still enjoying the bike and learning from the experience of others here. Coming from a f650CS, I also found the bike a bit quirky to ride at first. As others have pointed out, part of it was relearning clutch/throttle control for this bike. For sure the throttle was more ...

Re: A matter of the utmost importance...

Funny you should say that - the only time I've ever had one of those "through the car window" conversations was the first time I rode my bike home from the dealer. I guess it must have been very clean and pretty! Hasn't happened since... Interesting that this has only happened to yo...

Re: A matter of the utmost importance...

Afraid that I'm going to have to side with those who say keep the silver. But I admit that I'm biased as that's what I have myself. A very classic colour for a BMW bike. The only other one that would tempt me is the Biaritz Blue - it is one sharp looking bike and I envy those of you who have one! Ch...

Re: Bar Riser/Brake line

Had the SW Mototech risers put on mine too. Not being much of a mechanic I got the dealer to do it. He ordered the brake line for the 1200GS which is longer to replace it. Can't remember the final total put it turned out to be a much more expensive job than I thought! :?

Welcome to the board Dave. Since you've had your bike for a little while now and have been lurking, you've obviously found it a great source of information. I've based most of my after market purchases on info here and input from other members. For the first few months I also had trouble nailing dow...

Re: Tank Bag of Choice

I went with a 11 litre 'Shiloh Road' tankbag from RKA and have been very happy with it. The standard BMW bag just looked a bit too big in my opinion. Utlimately it depends how much stuff you want to put in it. Mine is perfect for a bottle of water, sunglasses, gloves, small lunch for day trips etc. ...
