I found the part in Bob's catalogue. And you're right, it's $159. I do appreciate the suggestion.

Topcase Lock
My brother-in-law broke the flourescent red lock plate (or whatever it's called) of My R1150RS's topcase. I looked for a replacement part at the local BMW dealership on the BMW parts software with the salesman, came up with nothing. The case is functional, except for not locking. I don't much like t...

Re: cost of ownership
This is why I love this forum. I had this same question... and I find someone who's been through the same thing. I'm thinking very seriously about trading my 02 R1150R for an 03 K1200GT.

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis
Mine (2002) happened in July 2007 at 15,225 miles, while on what was supposed to be the last leg of a 3000 mile trip. The BMW dealership that replaced the clutch botched the job, had to have the transmission replaced by my hometown dealership upon my return. Since then I've put on over 7000 miles wi...

The bike is actually a 2002 model. The manufacture date is June or July 2001, but it’s a 2002 model. Thanks for these very thoughtful posts. After giving this some more consideration, I decided to stick with my original plan to go RT in 2008 or 2009. What I’m getting is that this sort ...

I'm fairly sure it's the input shaft. A friend forwarded this discussion from the BMWOA forum: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11047

Tale of Woe
I've just completed a 3000+ mile trip to from Portland, OR to southern Utah and the Grand Canyon. The scenery and low-traffic roads made for thrilling motorcycling, despite the daily high temperatures of around 100. Riding with two Texas friends of 30+ years, added to the fun. Everyone got home safe...

I'm very seriously considering purchasing one. Could one fo you who now have one your bike post a photo taken from the rider's position? Parabellum deosn't have one on their site and the ones I've seen on this site are from the front or side. I'm glad to see these positive user reviews. Thanks! Carlos

We stopped in Cascade Locks, OR (Columbia River Gorge) for ice cream (mid 80's today!). I parked the R on the street on it's center stand. As I took it off the stand to head home it got away from me, down on its right side. (NNNOOOOO!!!!) The only damage is a couple of small gouges to the engine gua...

Kristi: I heartily agree--wonderful ride and documentation. I'm a native Texan, lived in Central Texas for 13 years. I sent a link to your post to my brother-in-law who rides a Honda, but used to live in Leakey, and to an old BMW-riding friend in Austin who recently covered a lot of the same roads. ...
