Re: Fuel stabilizer
I've used Stabil every winter for 10 years. Fresh fuel > Stabil > 20 - 30 mile ride to push it through the injectors. I have heard good things about Seafoam. A good friend who is a BMW bike tech and the folks at the shop where my car is worked on recommend against draining the fuel because the lines...

Re: Oil change/sight glass question
Your sight glass looks empty to me. I strive for the proper amount of oil, but prefer to err on the too much is better than too little side of engine oil measurement. The down side of too much is less expensive to repair than the down side of too little. I've heard and follow the park on center stan...

Re: Oil change/sight glass question
Word of warning---When first starting bike -- let it idle 15-30 seconds and put in gear and ride off. NEVER let it sit and idle for long periods (45+ seconds). You can search this forum and find some horror stories of how folks have started the bike, got a phone call or some other distraction and w...

Re: Oil change/sight glass question
http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=6837 I use a BMW specific wrench. Step 8. Add fresh oil. Using the funnel and your 4 quarts/liters - fill the oil fill with 3.75 quarts/liters. Don't sweat the exact measurement. Use about 3.75 quarts/liters. [3.75 quarts will probably do it just fine.] A lite...

Hi Gabe,
I recall being a bit confused by that the 1st time I changed my oil, but followed the instructions exactly as they were written (not by me) and it worked perfectly.

Re: Tire Pressure
Over inflation is better than under in terms of tire wear, fuel economy and sidewall blowout prevention. If my auto tires are a pound or 2 over I don't worry. The downside of over inflation is less tire in contact with the road so handling suffers. Not good on a bike. I check inflation before each s...

Re: +Changing oil on R1150 RT
There is/was a great post somewhere on this site with step by step instructions for an r1150r. Maybe someone knows where to find it, but I can't. It is the one with pictures of Barbie dolls in the illustrations. I copied it to a Word document and made very minor edits for my personal preferences. He...

Re: Tire Pressure
If bikes are like cars then NEVER set pressure according to the tire as that is the maximum that the tire can handle. The technicians at my BMW shop have a chart on the wall listing the recommended pressure for each model bike, based on experience factoring in performance/handling in all riding temp...

Re: Happy new R1150R owner with a few questions
I love my Sargent seat. The longest day ride on my '04 was 673 miles and one of the only things that weren’t sore was my butt! The stock Sargent seat height splits the difference between the stock low and high seat so you will notice a difference. I considered the Russell, but could not get past the...

Re: Top Box and Panniers
I love my system cases. The mounting brackets serve as handles for the passenger. http://www.bmw-riders-gear.com/BMWRA_products.asp?page=6&mm=Gear&c=Pack&sc=Side+Cases&m=Motorcycle&r1=&md=&a1=ON&d1=ON&i1=ON&p1=1&p2=12&s1=&bplo=&bphi= Not sure i...

Hey Now! New lifetime member Darius here. I found my '04 r1150r just 25 miles from home on this site and the oil change instructions (http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=6837) have already saved me more than the lifetime membership cost! Still psyched to be skiing, but can't wait for the roads t...

In the winter months 3 - 4 years ago I was sitting on an r1150r (yellow), but didn't pull the purchase trigger because I had yet to compute my taxes. Good move as I ended up owing Uncle Sam a big chunk of change. I kept on wanting a bike, looking at less expensive alternatives, but kept coming back ...

I recently bought a 2004 r1150r silver with 6500 miles. I found it on this board which continues to be a very valuable information source (shifting technique, oil burning, brake squeal, cleaning, seat discomfort, etc.) When I purchased the bike I sent pictures to family and friends and received the ...
