Re: Got Mine

I was diagnosed with cancer on my first day of retirement......15 years ago. Has been in and out of remission ever since, so it gives you a different perspective. I bought a new bike the day after the diagnosis as sort of a middle finger to the disease. I work hard to stay in shape. Here in the moun...

Got Mine

A red 2014 about three weeks ago. Due to weather, have only been able to put about 450 miles on it so far. Love the bike. It is not IMHO a multi-day sport tourer - at least not when you are shortly going to be 70 years old - but it is good for 200+ miles here in the mountains. That's about all I do ...

Re: S1000R Test Drive

I bought a red one about two weeks ago, but with other priorities, have only had it out once for a couple of hundred miles here in the mountains. Great motorcycle. Crazy fast and very nimble. Riding position better than the S1000RR, but significantly more sporty than the R1200R I also own. Hope to g...

Re: Handle Bars and Steering Dampers

Wunderlich's Touring Wellness bars are great. Have had them on 3 RR's and currently have them on my 07. They don't require risers, but move the hands up and back just enough for me to be comfortable all day long. They do require a slightly longer brake line, but that was a minor issue.

Re: Handle bar risers

I've had risers on a couple of RR's over the years, but on the last two I have put the Wunderlich Touring Wellness Bar. They raise the bars a bit, move the grip back and change the angle on which your hands sit on the bars and they retain the stock look. They are much more comfortable for long perio...

Re: Blue Ridge Rarkway - recommendations?

The Park Service has a website devoted to the parkway....just do a search on Google. It has information on closures, etc. and they keep it up to date. I was getting ready to ride up there today and checked. The closures are due to heavy rain this spring and potential for dangerous slides. They had a...

Re: Cross country Western Trip

Sounds like a great trip! You got back just in time for the weather to improve here....

We are headed out for the next 3-4 days on the color tour over the BR Parkway, Cherohala, etc. Just here for a couple more weeks and then off to FL for the winter.

We do have to get together next summer.

Re: Pricing

There were some incentives....$600 in accessories and I think $500 if you are a BMWMOA member. I don't remember the expiration dates on those. Since this is the end of the model year time, I would not pay MSRP.

Re: back ache and bar risers

I've had bar backs on a couple of RR's over the years, and they are good. I currently have a Wunderlich Touring Wellness bar on my R1200R. The bar is a bit wider than a standard bar and moves you hands back about the same as bar backs. The positives - that it does not interfer with a tank bag like b...

Re: Touring Wellnes Bar

Finally got this installed after a full day at the dealer. About the same hand position as the stock bar with risers. One thing I don't like is that the new bar will not accept my Throttlemeister. I will be putting the Throttlemeister and the risers in the classifieds shortly.

Re: Touring Wellnes Bar

They send you a longer brake line with it. I bought one and took it to the dealer who said it couldn't be installed. After telling them I've had them on other RR's and referring them to the Wunderlick site, they are going to install it tomorrow (I hope).

Touring Wellnes Bar

Anyone install one of these on their R1200R? I had one on my R1150R, but my dealer here told me you could not put one on the R1200R because the clutch and throttle cables were too short. I know the cables on the other bike had to be re-routed, but not replaced.

Thanks.

Front Shock Adjustable?

Is the front shock on the R1200R adjustable? Mine is feeling mushy, and if it can't be adjusted, thinking about replacing with Ohlins.

Re: Transceiver antenna mount on R1200R

Yeah, I built a couple of those last year and they work, but too many moving parts. My goal was to have just the FTM-10 and my Zumo on the bike. If there were a workable wired or bluetooth solution, there would be no need for the Autocom. I use the Autocom solution, and my wife who is a ham too has ...

Re: Transceiver antenna mount on R1200R

I'm one...been N0DC since the mid-70's. I do use a half-wave antenna in answer to the other post. I run the FTM-10R with an Autocom, but would prefer to go to a directly wired headset. Have tried a couple and the noise cancelling properties are pretty poor. I have also tried a couple of bluetooth al...

Re: Transceiver antenna mount on R1200R

I use an FTM-10R on my RR. I just used some aluminum stock from the local hardware store and attached it to the plastic part of the top case rack with a couple of screws. I ran a ground wire from the stock to the frame under the seat. Works fine and doesn't look bad with the topcase in place. I'm su...

Re: Winter months and Battery Tender

The tender and stabil are good ideas. One additional step I take is to put mine in a zip closed cover. You push or ride the bike onto it, put it on the center or side stand, put some Damp Rid or similar inside and zip the thing closed. That keeps the mice and other critters out. The bike stays clean...

Had a Corbin on an R1150R and an R1100RT. Both were good. Currently have a Corbin on my K12S with a smuggler and I love it. Sorry you've had such bad luck. Good luck with the repairs.

Re: R1200R - Lowered version

Have not seen one, but I suspect it would have lower ground clearance and you probably would not want to put a center stand on one. The lower ground clearance could cause cornering issues on hard riding. Things will scrape sooner. If you do a lot of "hanging off" in corners, that would be ...
