Re: Metzler Z6 Wear Indicators

I got 8900mi out of the OEM Metz Z6's on my R12R... was down to the last thin layer of rubber and the cord was showing. I then bought set of Mich Pilot Road 2CT's and via my experiences with them, I'd never go back to the Metz's. By time Metz's had 5000 miles on them, the handling was terrible on ba...

Re: $350 rear tire?

My new K13S came with Conti Sprt Atk's and really don't care for them so far with near 800mi on bike, 50-50 back roads and slabs to date. Will reserve final judgment 'til it's time to replace them. Good luck with yours.

Re: Question on WHITE R1200R

Granite Grey Metallic is faster  .....One peculiar thing about the white is that BMW, in some kind of illogical decision, uses the granite grey cover piece behind the seat and over the taillight instead of carrying through the white theme all the way. Strange :-k The white is very nice, an...

Re: Has anyone ever changed the final drive ratio

Unless you do a lot of 2-up riding and run the mountains frequently, I don't think the swap is worth it... and I'm into performance mods. I had no problems leaving the line hard with the R12R; mine had a full Remus and Dobeck TFI. Even the R12S runs the same ratio as the R (2.75)... but the RT runs ...

Re: Air filters for R1200R

I installed a K&N (reluctantly) on my R1200R as part of performance upgrade with full Remus and Dobeck. Can't say it really "helped" top end performance over the OEM piece. I ordinarily never use K&N's as they don't filter as well as other quality materials, and don't always flow b...

Re: $350 rear tire?

I hope your Dunlop works out. After the OEM Metzelers bit the dust at 8900mi, I dropped into a lot of forums to read what guys were saying about the PR2's. The old style PR's didn't remotely compare for mileage. I bought a set of Pilot Road 2CT's (relatively recent release) and those things were won...

Re: Dino vs Synthetic Oil...I was thinking.

I started using synths in '88, and have never looked back. On my turbo cars I used Amsoil's synth and the same on my bikes (their specific bike synth!) including the R1200R once I reached 6000mi. From 6K to 12K miles the bike only used 1/4c of oil to top off. I ride consistently above 80mph if the t...

Re: Anybody removed the "R1200R" letters on the tank?

Here's mine without lettering. When brand new, I removed the lettering as soon as I got bike home. Just simply lifted an edge and pulled it right off. No gunk left on tank and just took a little Scratchex to lightly polish area. I had bike custom painted, even better in person. I also had the textur...

Re: Farklers, do you miss your naked R?

Below are 2 pics of 2 distinctly "different" R12R's. It only takes 20min max to switch from one to the other, that's how easy it is to bolt on/unbolt the Givi bag mounts & swap 'shields. 90% of my riding is with only the little sport shield. Love "naked." The Givis give up a ...

Dang, didn't know you Canucks had K13R's! I prefer the standards over the S's. Perhaps we'll get them by fall.

Re: Question for all you windscreen aficionados

There are so many human torso lengths, screen shape & height, BMW/aftermarket seat height permutations it's rather difficult to recommend one. I've got the BMW short sport/fly screen and have found that to work amazingly well, even in summer thunderstorm on I-95 at 75mph. I had seen Don's posts ...

Re: A few new R1200R Q's...

I've got an '08 R1200R with 12K on it. The first recall happened just before I picked it up at delivery (mine was a demo); it was the antenna ring failure. The 2nd recall was for the ABS line. Whoever supplied the line to BMW made it too short. Apparently the bike's braking computer "looks at&q...
