Re: 2004 r1550r bearing noise. Faulty input shaft bearing?

Riceburner, as far as I know, the pushrod is supposed to rotate at engine speed. Its throwout bearing is in the master cylinder. To the OP: I can't open your video, so I can't tell what type of noise you are getting. However, the main operating differences between clutch out (noise) and clutch pulle...

Re: Anyone removed the O2 sensor?

I checked the O2 sensor reading with a warm engine. Only when it is idling do I see the voltage fluctuate as expected between 0.1 and 0.9 V. Anything above idle, and the voltage is above 0.8 V. Either the O2 is being ignored, or the sensor is bad. So little information out there!

Re: Anyone removed the O2 sensor?

Hi Sol. How do you know that closed loop only operates in that narrow window? Incidentally, yesterday I was getting set-up to check the operation of the O2 sensor using the MotoScan App. With the App, I can read the voltage of the sensor. I am looking into this because 1) my R has more than 82k mile...

Re: R1150R v new R1200R LC

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the clunky gearbox yet... I just rented an R LC in Milan for a 4-country tour in the Alps. The engine is beyond fantastic, and the riding position is more comfortable than my 1150R. But what's the story with the clunking in the first three gears !!??? It is s...

Re: Best battery for the R1150R?

My Odyssey battery is over 10 years old and it has not received the TLC it deserves. I have let it discharge several times, and in particular when I went overseas for 1 year and the bike was barely touched. Two or three times per winter, I plug it into a cheap Chinese trickle-charger and yet the bat...

Re: Oilhead Coding Plugs, Decoded

Nice job, Roger! This is the first time that I see some verifiable information regarding the CCP. It would be nice to learn more about what was intended with the different functions and what the different names mean. I will contribute an incomplete interpretation of some of the information that you ...

Re: tires again

I love the Conti-Motions. To me, they are equivalent to the also-excellent Pirelli Diablo Stradas that I was using before (nearly identical weight, construction, and road feel) and they cost half as much. The front lasted almost 10,000 miles. I don't know why they aren't more popular than that.

Speaking about "experienced" bashers, have you noticed the following?

Re: New guy here

-i also have a light tick when the engine is at hot idle. Its from the left side cylinder and is only heard at idle. That ticking noise is the chain tensioner. They all do that to some extent and there is a chain tensioner upgrade that comes from the 1200 engine that quiets it down. When I bought m...

Re: Stiction in fork legs?

Thanks, CycleRob! Good advice, as always. In my mind, I was considering disassembling the fork from the wheel up but your idea of disassembling the tube legs from the top brace will make things much easier. I will start collecting info and parts for this small wintertime project.

Re: Stiction in fork legs?

The shocks can be adjusted, but that's not the problem. I worked some WD-40 into the for seals and the suspension is MUCH better. For some reasons the seals have too much friction. I had never seen that before.

Stiction in fork legs?

I have been noticing for a while that my R tends to "hop" a bit on relatively smooth roads. I think that it is because the fork legs extend with too much (sticky) friction. Where can this stiction be coming from? Fork damper piston? Fork seals? Fork braces? Shock absorber?
Thanks!

Re: final drive problems

My only recommendation would be to check the FD once in a while by spinning the rear wheel. It should be perfectly smooth and devoid of play. FD main bearings do fail occasionally. Initially, a bad bearing will feel a little rough. Neglected, it will exhibit play and may cause failure of the seal. D...

Re: Time for a new throttle cable?

As Rob stated, you do not need to change cables at 23k miles. And if you did, that would not be the easiest route that you are seeking. What I can't understand is how the freeplay increased from zero to 4-7 mm by "undoing the lock on the TB adjuster". You are only using the cable adjusters...

Mike, I can't leave work early enough to meet you in South Boston. I think that this time I will cut through Lynchburg: it will save me about an hour. I will gladly ride with you on our way back East.
