Re: Engine failure?
Unless you or a truly proven mechanic knows exactly what is wrong with the engine, and repair you make will be a guess a best. I have been through engine failure and the split timing chain guides. My shop, at my encouragement, replaced a broken guide without splitting the block. shop called me amaze...

Re: R1150r clock wire melted wiring harness.
It is probably worth going through the wiring harness and giving it an inspection every year or two. I have had a few rubs and cuts that were caught before failure.

A random guess at #3 would be an issue with the fuel pump. It is inside tank with the filter. May also explain bad fuel economy...

Re: timing chain rail replacement
Depends on the damage. Found more than one post on AdvRider where this has been done. I my case, the rail is still there, just split down the middle. The motor has been loud forever, had a deal mechanic say, "some are louder than others"!. pulled the head and found the rail. There is a mec...

timing chain rail replacement
does anyone have tips/pictures/instructions for replacing the timing chain rails without splitting the engine? Have search Advrider and such, come across references to it being done, but was looking for more concrete data.
thanks,

If you can't shake it loose, as a last restort call a locksmith. Based on keying my own side cases, the tumblers should be easy work for a decent locksmith.

Re: Hand Guards
Yes, a throttle lock does work. Call Bob's Bmw in MD. they will sell you the correct one for a R with gs handguards. if you are a cheap s!@#$!@ like me, Bob's will sell you just the right side instead of making you pay for both bar ends like some others!

Re: Help: Heated Grips No Worki
pull the tank. check to see if the grips are even connected to the wiring harness. if they are, start check for power at the harness (white plastic connecter the grips plug into) see if you are getting 12 volts. then check each grip for continuity (there should be a few ohms of resistance but not wi...

Re: One heated grip dead
The grip can fail 2 ways that I have seen. A broken wire connecting the grip to the harness, usually caused the zip ties. I have also had a short in the element it self at this point you have nothing to lose. Pull the grip off the bike and pull on each lead. If there is a broken wire may just slid o...

Re: Faulty (Front) Brake Light Switch
I have fixed this switch on two ocassions: first time the switch was dirty. sprayed tuner cleaner let it dry, remounted and it worked for another 20k. The second time was this last weekemd. Suffered the dreaded zip tie attack, and has a cut wire about 15 inches down from the switch by the frame unde...

Re: 2003 R1150R Known Issues
Had both the zip tie issue and just had a quick disconnect fail. If memory serves me, the recall for the fuel system had to do with the clamps, not the quick disconnects. BMW did move away from the plastic disconnects to stainless steel. Smelled gas driving home on friday and found a broken mail dis...

Have the EBC rear rotor and pads, have been very happy with the wear and performance, especially for the $$$$. Btw, this is on a 2003 non-abs.

Re: Cee Baileys Windshields
I ran both the touring shield and a cee bailey's. both were about the same size.
The CB pushed the air up higher and was a quiter ride for me. I did not notice a change in mpg.
The shape will make the shield seem taller than the bmw touring, if that helps.

Re: Short in wiring harness
Don't be suprised to find the broken wire(s) directly under/next to a tie wrap. The vibration of the tie wrap can shear the wire inside the black casing without damaging the casing. When my turn signal cancel stopped working, the wire looked like it was cut with a laser it was so clean. Good luck.. ...

Re: That GD Clutch Again
Many factors from driving style to environment can kill a clutch in 18k miles.
From persnal experience, driving 90% of the time in urban traffic, being bigger than the average rider (+300lbs), and mis-matching rpms while engine braking killed my clutch in a hurry.

Re: Pirelli Strada vs Nail
I have plugged two rears and one front tire in the past 28k miles with no ill effects. But I live in a large city and only 8 miles from the office. If the plug fails, I am a cab ride from home. If you can mount your own, it is probably worth the $140.00 or so to replace the tire. It really is up to ...

Perhaps you should call the BBB and your states attorney's office. Include a copy of the article from MCN. Perhaps they will be interested in a consumer fraud case! sounds better than a theft complaint of worn out parts.

How cold is cold? Thick cold oil definitely effects cranking.
I ride pretty much year round in chicago. About late december I switch to lighter weight oil, the bike starts much easier down to 5F.
