Clean it all up, and then put the wheel back on. I would think it is normal.
Rain, road grime etc. I have seen it on mine in the past when taking wheel off for tyre change.( i have had 5 oilheads)

Re: Whats going on with my high beam?
Yep, I would trade it in if I were you. You obviously dont deserve a BMW, so go get some Jap bike, and then when that has a problem that gets too hard, trade that too =D> My dealer is 300 mile away, so dont grizzle about that either. Now, get off your sorry butt, and have a good look at the wiring a...

Re: TOP BOX
I just bolted the adaptor/mounting plate direct to the BMW rack, which is attached to the pannier mounting rails. No other brackets came with the box, only the mounting/adaptor plate, if that makes sense.

Re: TOP BOX
Andrew, the one I got came with mounting plate included. Got it today, and was easy to fit to existing BMW rear rack. Have you checked out Ebay?? Plenty on there, and priced right.
I dont do real big trips, so with a top box, and tank bag, and Camelback, I carry all I want for a few days.

Re: Considering R1150R - newbie questions
I have had 5 oilheads, R1150GS, R1150RT, R1100RS, and 2 R1150R. All great bikes. The GS was a little too high for me, the RT was a fantastic winter bike, but too hot in the summer, the RS was a great allrounder, but the sporty riding position took its toll on my crook shoulders. I now have my 2nd R,...

Givi is the way to go. I had one on my previous R, and have just ordered a 30lt Givi for my current R. Easy to mount, and adjustable to get the ultimate position.
I had my last one fairly well forward, as I dont carry a passenger it wasnt a problem.
I dont like too much weight hanging out the back.

Re: Highway Elf Pegs
I have just made my own, using the 2 top rocker cover bolts to mount brackets. Yet to fit, but have tried them in the shed, and think they will be OK for a leg rest.
Will fit this weekend.

Re: Trade the Beemer for a VFR?
I would buy a late VFR750 over a VFR800 of any year. Have ridden both, and the 750 was a far better bike IMHO. b12bandit, you sound like me. I dont drink/smoke/drugs etc either, and bikes, and cars are my only vice. My missus isnt happy with me at times, but at least she knows what I am up too :D I ...

Re: Remus End Can
No you wont have to re-adjust anything. I would persanally try and get the Y pipe as well. Makes a lot of difference.
I had a Remus full system on my 1st R, with a chip, and went very well.
My now R has full Staintune system.

Re: Tires and Tire pressure
My current R runs Metzeler Roadtec Z6. They seem good in the handling department, and so far wearing OK.
On my previous R I used Michelin Pilot Road 2. Great tyre. If the Metzelers dont cut the mustard, I will go back to the Michelins.
I run 34-36f, 38-40r.

Re: Trade the Beemer for a VFR?
The VFR750 is a very nice bike to ride. But, they are prone to electrical issues as well. Rectifyers fail regularly, and will leave you stranded on the side of the road. If you complain about cleaning the R1150R, dont buy a VFR  I have to agree with everyone else, the Beemer has great suspens...

Re: Y pipe/Cat Eliminators
I had the Remus system on my 1st R(2001) I have a Staintune system on my current R(2002)
Both had/have cat eliminators. The Remus has a Y pipe, the Staintune has a box system instead of the cat.
Both have there own sound. Either is OK with me.

Why not look at the one for sale in the sell/buy section? Look at the Ohlins sell.
Only $5000, 2004 with goodies.
I dont know how that fits with where you live, but sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: RTP trans and higher FD ratio
It sounds like the RTP trans shares the ratios with the R1150GS Adventure. Lower 1st, not so high 6th. I think you will find that the GSA is no slower in top speed than the GS, as the gear ratio allows the engine to rev free. For my riding, I would like the lower 1st more than the worry of extra rev...

In Australia, we have the opposite side wear, so it has to do with the side of the road you ride on. Camber of the road etc.

I just fitted GS hand guards to my R today They need a bit of a nip and tuck to fit, but no big drama.
And if thats not enough, wack some Tourateck hand guard extenders on for a bit more protection.
