Re: I just retired...
I am very glad to hear that you survived the crash and are on the mend. Although you have ended your riding career before you intended, you have had many years of precious memories from your riding adventures. I don't scuba dive any more, due to four stents in the heart from coronary artery disease,...

Re: Finally Upgraded to the R1200R
Gorgeous bike! That is the color I would pick, but it was not available at the time I bought my bike. You might want to make sure your oil filler cap is not "cross threaded." They will seep oil if the filler cap is not screwed all the way in and seated proprerly. The rubber fuel filler gas...

Re: NO BMW content Medic-Alert
Dr. Thanks! My episodes of cardiac symptoms have never manifested as the classic angina (seizing pain in the chest). The first one was a squeezing pain, along my left arm, similar to having the "blood pressure cuff" pumped up and not deflated. When I went to the emergency room, an EKG dete...

Re: NO BMW content Medic-Alert
I wish there was a compact, universally accepted computer device that could contain medical records and was recognized by all healthcare systems. I am hypertensive, type 2 diabetic, with coronary artery disease resulting in placement of four stents in my coronary arteries. These conditions require t...

Re: Advice on taking the plunge
I went from a 2005 R1200RT to a 2009 R1200R and couldn't be happier. My three motivating factors to make the change were: 1. Fairing on the RT did not allow enough airflow for riding in the hot/humid south. It was great for winter riding and in the cold rain, but I roasted most of the year. The fair...

Congratulations on your new bike!
I saw the K1600GT close up at the Sedalia BMWMOA Rally, but did not ride one.
The sound that this bike makes is awesome, so I am sure riding it must be an experience as well.

Re: Help me spend my money (on a r1200r)
You don't say where you are located in Maryland, but we have a few used R1200R's for sale in the Raleigh area. One is at Capitol BMW, 2011 with 8,500 miles for $11,995 and another is a friend of mine, who has his listed on the BMWMOA Forum fleamarket, a 2011 with 13,000 miles for $12,900. I have tou...

Re: BMW seats
Atractaspis, The standard seat height for the R1200R is 31.5 inches. This is what the bike comes equipped with. You don't mention which year the R1200R is that you are going to purchase. All R1200Rs manufactured in 2011 and after come eqipped with the Comfort Saddle as stock. I don't know why they r...

I have had this happen twice now with my 2009 R1200R. Both times called for replacement of the clutch switch. Mine were still under warranty.

Advice on Routes to Nova Scotia
Having survived the heat in the 2011 Bloomsburg, PA and the 2012 Sedalia, MO MOA Rallies, I am ready for some cooler riding in 2013. I am considering a trip to Nova Scotia in July 2013 and need some advice on possible routes. I intend to take US 15 north from North Carolina to the Corning, NY area a...

Re: Newbie with a few questions
I have a 2009 model and so far I have not replaced the fuel strip. I use two methods of backup to the bike's fuel computer. I set the trip odometer to zero and when I reach about two hundred miles, I know that is an indicator of when to refuel. I also have a Garmin Zumo GPS that records fuel usage. ...

Re: BMW Suit sizing
If the 52 is the Euro size, according to the BMW apparel sizing chart, it is equal to a 42 (inches) US size, which fits someone who is 5 feet 8 inches tall with a chest measurement of 40-42 inches, a waist size of 36-37 inches and hip size of 42-44 inches. Here is a link to the sizing chart, where I...

Re: Back to the dark side.
ka5ysy, I am glad you are enjoying the RT after switching from the R1200R. I moved from the RT to the R 1200R because the RT was a problem for me in low speed maneuvering, so I have a caveat to your assertion: "Given the fact that the RT is about 80 pounds heavier, a lot of riders complain it i...

Re: New member, new BMW owner..
Great looking bike! The spoked wheels really make this look like a classic. I am still running dino oil in my 2009 R1200R with about 17,000 miles. I use the BMW 20/50 or Castrol GTX, if I am on the road without a quart of BMW oil in the side case. I have read on other forums (BMWMOA and Sport Tourin...

Re: How Many $$ for an '09?
Congratulations! I have an '09 that I purchased new in Feb 2010. I just got back form the dealer where I had 2 new Metzeler Z8's installed. I have about 17,000 miles on my bike. I ride it around town, on day trips and long touring trips. You can do just about anything with this bike. Some have even ...
