Re: Front brake lines
I went with Galfers for mine. Installation was a breeze, they were a bit less expensive than Speigler, and I think the yellow goes nicely with the pin striping on my "763" paint scheme!

R11R Fuel Q-Ds?
Hey folks, I've had the fuel lines on my 2000 1100R replaced after they were cracked and leaking, but since then I've wondered if anyone has retro-fitted the lines with quick-disconnects? Later model bikes have them but it's a serious PITA to use clamps on these lines to remove the tank, I'm paranoi...

Western Montana--Memorial Day Weekend 16!
Last year my friend and I took 3 days to ride the Beartooth Pass and Yellowstone. It was such a blast we're doing this again, but instead we're headed out west. Anaconda, Missoula, Lolo, then up to Libby and Yaak, over Lake Koocanusa to Hungy Horse, and finishing up cruising around (or through if th...

Re: rookie question blown around
It sounds like your shield is too low for you and your head is sitting in the most turbulent air possible. Ideally the top of the shield should be a little lower than eye level so you can still look over top but it will provide actual protection from the wind. 6 inches higher or lower than what you'...

Beartooth Pass 14-15 July 15
Hey out there. I just got moved up to beautiful Montana and will be riding the Beartooth Pass in July with a buddy of mine from work. Anyone else in the area/want to tag along? We'll be pushing out of Red Lodge on the morning of July 15th, hopefully avoiding the major crowds from the Rally that week...

Re: Has anyone replaced the R/L oil cooler banks with a sing
Oliver is/was on this forum and did a great looking custom job on his, replacing the "ears" with a GS cooler mounted under the paralever.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Gorilla brand superglue did the trick. Holding strong for over a year now!

Re: Max wattage for Auxiliary driving lights
Yup, I used my good 'ol Haynes manual to (conservatively) estimate the wattage of all the turn signals, headlight, instrument lights, and brake light. I swapped my turn signals for LEDs to drop my power demand as well (no problem for LEDs with the Kisan SM). Personally I'm looking for some good LED d...

Re: Max wattage for Auxiliary driving lights
I may be mistaken, but the alternator should put out a max of 700W. With headlights, turn signals, etc. as a "baseline wattage cost" of around 200W, you get max 500W for all your accessories. Of course I may be completely wrong, and alternator outage changes with RPMs so maybe somebody els...
Re: Tire wear
re: pressures. Haynes says front 32 rear 36 solo, 36/39 2 up. I regularly keep the bags on so I shoot for 34/37 and haven't had any issues yet.
Re: Tire wear
Not sure about the tires you had, I had Z6's on when I bought the bike and the front was wearing thin but the back still had plenty of life left. I swapped for PR3s about a year and 1,500 miles ago and have been extremely happy, they feel (to me) to be a more all-around tire versus the more sport-or...

Re: Newbie Intro
As a 2000 R11R owner as well, +1 on the rubber replacement. Got new fuel lines a couple years back ('11) after a leak developed at the fitting you have to clamp off to remove the tank, just did the fork seals, and am looking at brake lines next. So Spiegler isn't the best eh? Good to know.

Opening the Crash Bar can o' worms again
So somebody talk me out of going after crash bars for Jasper. One of the guys I work with just had an incident where a deer jumped up and literally landed in his lap. He ended up laying the bike down and his crash bars prevented any serious damage to him or the bike. Yup, the exact circumstances are...

Re: Why am I getting only 25mpg
Not sure. Double check your tire pressures obviously. You may want to try a little fuel injector cleaner. Jasper was running rough after an extended down time and a few local gas and go's that only sold 89 octane or lower. I got fed up and went for the little bottle the gas station sold. Lo and beho...

Re: New (to me) R1100R
Usually get the same issue trying to get first when stopped at a light after a long run in higher gears. Preloading on the downshift (same as on the up) helps prevent it though.

Re: Windshield question
I've tried a tall Cee Bailey's with no luck (for sale if anyone wants it!) and right now am using the BMW "sport" shield with slightly better results. Haven't tried a Parabellum, but I've been interested. You may also want to look at a "laminar lip" that lots of folks swear by, a...

Re: Cheap LED turn signals for Jasper!
There's a Kisan SM installed already. I did not know about the resistor issue, good to know. Any idea what resistance is necessary? I assume something that will come close to a regular incandescent lamps resistance.

Cheap LED turn signals for Jasper!
The Mrs. got these for me for Christmas! $25 a pair, easy install and they look great. The only problem is I didn't have a 17mm wrench so had to make do with the ol' crescent. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Motorcycle-Signals-R1200GS-R1200RT/dp/B004SCJS3G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=14Y4AG0UWXF...

Re: Project link in ADV: R1100R to GS conversion
Nice! Been tossing this idea around myself for awhile, mainly thought of swapping wheels out, adding skid plates and plumbing in a GS oil cooler behind the telelever in lieu of the exposed R's "ears."

Nice looking bike! I got a set of PR3s for mine and love them. I must say I'm envious of your backrest too!
