Re: Really Virginia/DC No riders today? 28 F that bad?
The event horizon for me IS when there's any precipitation BELOW freezing. I'm talking about days like today; which also started in the low 20's. The roads were bone dry and with my Gerbings gear no concern whatsoever of frost-bite and/or operational impairment. I've experienced hesitation starting ...

Re: Rear box mounting
Man! How do you come up with these? Wish I'd known it in highschool! "Kobe I think you are ugly!" Oh, like a GS I'm ugly on purpose! Bwhahahahaha! It's a very interesting concept - beauty is axiomatically utilitarian but nobody says the same about uglyness. Perhaps there's an even higher p...

Re: winter Solstice
Merry Christmas Dude! Rode into work today, 28 F in Northern Virginia. I was shocked by the scarcity - hell, total absence of all motorcycle presence on the roads. Sure I had to roll out all my Gerbings gear but I expected a few GS's to come out and show what's so cool about those crazy Germans. All...

Re: Change a tire yourself?
I swapped new tires from my 1150 to my 1200 about 2 months ago, no, my tires did not come flying off, lol! No, it's not genius work if your parents let you play with tools growing up. And yes it's pleasantly fulfilling to know you can do this by yourself. No, I don't have a compressor so I called my...

Really Virginia/DC No riders today? 28 F that bad?
So riding to work today, first time I've needed all my weapons to fend off the cold btw - insoles, gloves, jacket liners. I notice hmmm so 95 is pretty bereft of riders - maybe they are all on 495 - Get to 495 hmm, where are all the riders? Well perhaps I'll catch up with them on the Toll-Road - nop...

Man! I'm glad to hear instinct kept you safe. The problem though is the voodoo queen makes similar promises as regards her sharpened instinct and I passed on her motorcycle offerings. WE DESERVE BETTER. I shouldn't need telekinesis to cross State boundaries. Perhaps I missed the subsection in the te...

Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles
Well, we can pretend the emperor's clothes are invisible but eventually some Japanese kid will walk into the room and ask why BMW riders 'deal' with so much crap. I've read things on here (and not just in this thread mind you) that would sound like an design/efficiency-improvement no-brainers. Frank...

Re: Engine bolt won't go back in!!! Help!
Thanks guys, I successfully reassembled it. It took a mental shift or what Kuhn called his 'paradigm shift' principle. I was worried about vertical alignment, shining a flash light through the bolt hole revealed the horizontal alignment was of - it's as if the Y coordinate was good but the X coordin...

Re: Engine bolt won't go back in!!! Help!
Thanks Kirby, I did manage to get it back in doing exactly what you suggested. The manual seemed to imply that the pin goes through the rail but looking at it it appeared the rail sat on top of the screw. I wasn't sure about that so I'm gonna take a closer look today before I button her up. I'm gonn...

Re: Engine bolt won't go back in!!! Help!
Thanks buddy, I'm going over the diagram now to see if I can 'hack' it without complete disassembly. I haven't gone 'full stupid' in a long time, I think. This, right here. This is a new low! What a life! I'm learning though! My middle school teacher taught me that's all that matters, to always lear...

Engine bolt won't go back in!!! Help!
What did I just do? This bolt (pic below) was leaking oil and so I initially tightened it which cured the oil weep. Why was it weeping? I dropped the bike and had to remove the plastic covers. I suspect I had failed to tighten it to spec afterwards. Fantastic I thought. Then I went to change my oil ...

Re: What I think I know
5. The clutch remote slave cylinder on the back of the transmission often leaks. Now is a good time to check yours by removing it and inspecting. Mine hadn't developed a serious leak but was about to, there was a thick layer of jellied fluid inside--caught it in time. Hi Roger 04, can you shed some ...

Re: Leaking Oil Filler Cap
I changed mine out this morning (it was bleeding oil all over the left side of the bike); the piece that locks into the bike itself. I did it after morning mass in the church parking lot - 15 minutes tops! I don't even know why people suggest taking off the valve covers, no such thing is required or...

Do you guys know if this screen is compatible with the Rockster?
I'm currently eying the 'BMW Standard' on ebay but I haven't read 'nice' things about it.
