Re: 2007 vs 2009 r1200r ABS problems

My 2007 R1200R sat for about 8 mos near Seattle, friend's garage, battery tender got unplugged; new battery; brake failure flashing intermittently; rode to Denver; BMW there said intermittent low voltage to ABS unit....Know about module masters; haven't got the time to have bike laid up in Denver; r...

Re: Long Distance with the R1200R

pps You are going to potentially save a lot of money by buying earlier than 2010 whenever cam head came out....just get the iteration from 2007 up to different heads whatever they called it...that way you can get the windshield correct. Then you take the THOUSANDS you saved and farkle on..... Any ye...

Re: Long Distance with the R1200R

I have a 2007 R1200R. I have ridden from San Diego to Alaska and now most of the way back; bike is in Seattle area as I had to cut return short due to new grandchild. I'll be going up in May and doing Oregon and Washington before returning to southern California. Good advice so far on seat....but re...

Re: OEM Touring Windscreen

For 2007 until model change, Dan "C" block to tilt back and tallest Cal Science. Best combo I've found. Although on recent 4500 mile run I used, at the last minute, a Parabellum tallest, as it was in better shape and wider gave me some additional shoulder protection.

Re: Wunderlich Active Comfort Seat rider review

As with nearly every other R12 owner I have played the windshield game and the seat game. This past June, I rode over 4500 miles from San Diego to Washington, then ferry to Alaska, then down through Yukon and BC leaving bike for a while in Seattle. NO SEAT PROBLEMS. Last minute purchase....the "...

Re: Help me spend my money (on a r1200r)

I just "toured" 4500 miles on my 2007 R1200R; San Diego to Alaska etc; used larger windscreen; aftermarket seat, Air Hawk, Givi bags; it was fine; I've ridden an RT a couple of times; just not my deal; I've never ridden a GS but others love them. I'd ride an RT and a GS and then go buy the...

Re: Alaska on a 1150R

Last month did Alaska Port of Whittier to Seward, Seward to Anchorage to Tok to Border to Dawson YT; down the Yukon, down the Cassiar through BC to Seattle. Was on my 2007 R1200R; I had a larger windshield, Givi top case and side bags; dry bag across pillion; I didn't carry extra fuel although I had...

Re: New F800GT

Month of June did 4500 miles on my 2007 R1200R; San Diego to Washington; then ferry, then Anchorage to Dawson, YT; then down all of the Yukon, and all of BC on the Cassiar Hwy; stashed it in friend's garage in Seattle and will pick up in the fall. Used no oil, no flats, no get offs, no tickets. Spee...

Re: best tire for bmw r1200r

Generally run PR3's at least two sets; and a set of PR2' before that; just completed 5500 miles on a set of Continental Trail Attack 2's Note these are the 2's and I've seen original TA's side by side with TA 2's and there is a big difference. I looked at Scorpion and also TKC 80's as much of the 55...

Re: Tell I'm crazy.....or not!

More weight you can shift down low, the better, I like your Givi 35 liter top case. I run that one most of the time without side cases. I have the big 55 Givi that I run on top on the road as it hold a bunch and is top loading. And I can just take that one 55 into motel; problem is I can really load...

Also, If I went with Cee Bailey; how would it work with the Don C block? I do not want to uninstall the block. Cee Bailey is in the LA area and I could just grab one on my way up north. Just looked at their web site. I remember from a year ago that they really tried to figure out the R12 and spent a...

Need Quick Windshield Answer

Yeah I know beat to death topic. But, this really is a quick question. can't find EXPROF's email or I'd just ask Mike. I am leaving for Alaska from San Diego on June 1, 2013. I have been using the XL Cal Sci at about 24" with the Don C block and that has been great for a couple of years. Has a ...

Re: Highway pegs

The Ilium works are better than nothing; but, if I had crash bars I'd go that route. Put pegs on the bars. I'd also be able to better mount some more lighting. As it is, I'm getting ready to do about 8K miles and am out of time to change much else. I'm headed for Alaska from San Diego, and thence ba...

Re: Range on a full tank

I think Wiki puts tank capacity for R1200R at 4.8 gallons. Really pushing it to the top seems to be maybe 5.0 but then there are, for me, overflow issues and the possibility of screwing up the overflow cannister that should be operated on anyway; but then you remove the cannister and can run into le...

Range on a full tank

Getting ready to take my R1200R 2007 to Alaska; last week did about 1200 miles on a shake down local San Diego club ride to the Central Coast of California. On the way back I came as close as I ever have to actually running out of fuel. I think the tank holds 4.8 and when I filled I put in 4.6. The ...

Yeah me too!!! Got the BMW branded number IV or whatever; same deal; I'm very familiar with Garmin but no idea how to do route planning with a computer. Is there a nice u tube tutorial out there somewhere; one from above is very general. Getting ready to go to Alaska in June and have to master this ...

Riding in Alaska in June; on loose surfaces, highly recommended that ABS be switched off. Is there a work around for switching off ABS.

Re: Tires for R1200R, need a little DS

I really liked what I read about the PR3 TRAIL; I am on PR3's now; unfortunately they do not seem to make the PR3 TRAIL in sizes that fit my 2007 R1200R which takes: Front 120 70 ZR 17 and Back 180 55 ZR 17 Seems that Pirrelli Scorpion, Continental TKC 80 and Continental Trail Attacks will fit. My s...

Re: Tires for R1200R, need a little DS

Been looking further on the interweb: Continental Trail Attack, Continental TKC 80; and Pirelli Scorpion Trail seem to be the only ones that fit. So far I like the Scorpion Trail best.
