Re: Windshield Turbulence
I could not take the turbulence of the BMW touring (Cee Bailey) wind shield and switched out to a PUIG "Naked New Generation" (6488W). Big improvement. The Cee Baily has a lip that sort of curves away from the rider, which I would think would induce a tumbling motion in the airflow moving ...

Re: Quick Disconnects - Are they necessary?
I have been running 2 short pieces of copper tubing with hose clamps for more than 15k. I have had the tank off a few times-- its no hassle really. Point the disconnected fuel hose towards a container for future use in the lawn mower...

Re: Fuel Mileage
I get a very consistent 42 mpg with mixed city & highway. You have to account for mandated ethenol in the fuel. FL mandates 10%. This has the effect of raising octane, but lowering mileage... YMMV is appropriate here

Wow-- a pretty good education for me right there. Nice write up.
And you are absolutely correct, both my friend w/ the CBR600 and I w/ the R1150R were making conscious decisions to rely on the alternator to recharge the weak batteries. Lesson learned.

Re: R1150R Hard starting
<snip> I have ordered an Odyssey PC680. I am hopping that the current battery is just shot and that's the end of it... Problem resolved with the new battery. It is interesting that the R1150R would just shut off while doing 80 or so-- about 4000 RPMs-- if juice is low. I need to check the output fr...

Re: R1150R Hard starting
Charged the battery again. The bike started for about 2 seconds (and sounded normal) and then died. The battery has enough in it for 5-6 more tries and then the headlight dims. Looks like this is repeatable... However, no wild swings of the tach. I would not rule out a short, though. I am unfamiliar...

Re: R1150R Hard starting
Aw, I have lot's of problems, but the bike-oriented one stems from a day-long ride in the rain. We did not intend to ride in the rain, but got caught 100 mi from home, and, well, it poured... A friend and I swapped bikes and he was on mine when the engine just quit running-- at 80mph. No drama. He j...

Re: Burning smell coming from tank area
Update: The bike was at the dealer for two days and they stated that they rode the bike and could not smell the burning that we all had when I dropped it off. (2 technicians confirmed that they smelled it when I dropped the bike off.) I was told that the smell was similar to when the clutch was sli...

Source for Braided Brake Hoses
I am looking to change out the stock rubber lines on my R1150R and have been shopping for the braided hoses. I would not mind doing the clutch lines either. I have done google and board searches and have come to the conclusion that the going rate is about $45-$50 per caliper-- is this what others ar...

Suggestions for a bluetooth phone / cam helmet?
I currently ride w/ a Caberg Justissimo GT helmet. It is a fine piece and has some real nice features. However, I was wondering what was out there for helmets with bluetooth links to phones and, even better, integrated "hero cam". I am fully aware of the bike-to-bike bluetooth helmets, I a...

If your plugs are relatively new and good, try just closing the gap down a little (.28 - .25).

Re: Booster Plug
Another way out may be to remove the muffler, go up 1 heat range in spark plug (Autolite 3923) and do a value adjustment. This has done wonders for the responsiveness of my bike. Total investment is time and $3 for the plugs, and everything is easily reversible if it does not work out. I removed th...

Thanks for the replies.
The previous owner said the local BMW cycle dealer had done all previous maint, including the last valve job. The only conclusion I can make at this point is that the dealer did it (very) improperly.

Re: Greetings + questions
The owner said that the tires are good but several years old (which possibly means hard). It's probably a bit late to throw this out there, but you may want to change the valve stems on the tires. It's cheap insurance if you don't get new tires right away. You're looking at something like $20 parts...
