Thanks, Doug.
The old URL (.org) for this board generates a not-here 404 error suggesting an email to you at [email protected]. Emails to that address bounce, of course. Took a new search for me to find the new TLD.
Glad to see it here again.

Re: Retiring my R1200R
Very nice, Harry. Makes me feel wistful. I stopped riding in the Spring and sold my '07 in April . My wife was in treatment for lymphoma, and I was her sole caregiver. I realized that anything that increased risk to me was not a good idea. 48 years of delight in the saddle, without hurting myself or...

Re: Recalls, Do I have to?
Not identical, but related: My 2019 VW Jetta is subject to a recall to change the springs that raise the trunk lid. IMO, this wouldn' be an improvement, as the lid would then open with a fair amount of force and I can imagine it hitting an unwitting user in the chin. No thanks. I've had the car in t...

Re: anyone here anymore?
A few of us still look in. 2d owner 2009 R1200R. Now at 54K. Left me stranded twice: first time I'd left the ignition on and flattened the battery, second time the rear u-joint turned to crinkly. Even given those: it's the best bike I ever had too. I retired (for the second time) in 2019, and now do...

Re: Fuel Strip
I've wondered about this too. My '07 had its fuel strip replaced within the first year of ownership by the PO, and that replacement strip is still in place and operating correctly. My theory is that the early replacement strips were of better quality, and that later ones were poorer and failed more ...

Re: is there an Oil Cooling fan avail for 2011 R12R?
Never heard of one. From the factory, BMW has a cooling fan on the police ("Authority") RT models. The oil cooler on those machines is placed within the fairing in a different location, and not shaped the same as the one on the R; I expect the fan and mounts and shrouding would be differen...

Very nice work! Thanks for sharing it, impressive that it can be done in one's garage without a trip to the dealer's computer.

Re: Battery Test
Thanks, CycleRob. Actually, I've just kept plugging in the charger when the bike won't be (or hasn't been) ridden in two or three weeks. No change in behavior is tolerable. When things get worse, then yes, I'll replace it.

Re: Fuel Strip
I have a vague memory of having read, a year or two ago, about one rider who installed a float gauge from a later-model RT on an earlier-model RT. Can't remember where it was.

Re: All keys locked in system case :
You can lock the cases without the key? What, do you turn the key to "lock" before closing and cinching it? Exactly. After opening the lid, and with the case standing open, the key position will be "Open," and the flapper toggle will be sticking up. If you then rotate the key to...

A-80? A-65?
"Illegal to use?" There's lots of non-approved stuff out there, principally mufflers/exhausts and carb kits and FI modifications. But there is essentially zero enforcement against riders of these state and federal requirements.

Re: thoughts on 2011 Classic with $38K miles
That the previous owner had...um...a few years on him (no, I'm not thinking of myself, no not at all, don't even think that) and cared for the bike well is a big positive IMO. I don't think 38K miles is a lot at all. I've had several go way over 100K with no big issues. Clutch wear is often a person...

Re: Cager hit me. 2009 R12R seems to be totaled
Sorry to hear about your collision. Glad you weren't hurt. I'll guess that your insurance will offer you what they think the bike is worth, less your deductible. They may well assert it was (just pre-collision) worth less than you think it was worth. You could prepare for this negotiation by gatheri...

Re: exterior temp gauge stuck on 73.4 F
I have no idea. Could be the temperature sensor, the wiring between the sensor and the instrument cluster, the big connector at the instrument cluster, wiring in the cluster, or some solid-state circuitry within the cluster. Some of these might be accessible to you.

I doubt it. After a ride, or after a night on the charger, it cranks pretty well.
Still in wait-and-see mode.

Re: Battery Test
Disconnecting the injectors took about 90 seconds, including loosening the right-side triangular plastic cover for access. The test results were: ignition off 12.3v ignition on drops to 11.5, then over twenty seconds rises back to 12.3v cranking drops to 9.8v, and stayed there for the 3 or 4 seconds...
