Re: Towing W/R1200r
How does the hitch mount to the R1200RT? I would think that the rear sections of the R1200R and the R1200RT would be similar. They use the same hard bags for both bikes. If you saw how the hitch mounts to the RT it might give you and your friend some good direction on how to make a hitch for the R. ...

Re: Alternator belt - PITA on the 2012..
When I replaced mt belt on my 2008 I bought a 34 mm socket to change the belt. Unless the nut changed from the hex head to the cam head you will need to buy the 34 mm socket. I machined some off the face of the socket to allow it to get in behind the oil cooler better. From hearing what problems you...

Re: Is anyone ever here?
I am still here as well. I mostly look at the BMW Sport Touring forum and the BMW MOA forums. I will occasionally look at this forum but it is not a daily thing like it used to be. My 2013 R1200R is doing good. I bought it in January 2016 with 1300 miles to replace my 2008 with 56,000 miles. My 2013...

Re: 2011 - R1200r - K27 - Rear Main Seal or Counter Balance
You might want to look in the air box to see if there is any oil inside. If somehow the engine oil was over filled and oil got in the air box the oil you are seeing could be coming out of the air box.

Re: I'd Like to Sit on a BMW Comfort Seat
Dave: Did the seat dig into your legs where it rolled over the edge? The low comfort seat did for me. I was amazed how much better my reworked seat felt over that seat. I have an Alaska Leather sheep skin pad on my seat and it is wonderful. I am glad that you tried one before you bought one and were...

Re: I'd Like to Sit on a BMW Comfort Seat
David: I have a comfort seat on my R1200R. I live in Ohio so that will not do you any good but I can tell you about it. I had the Standard seat on my 2008 R1200R when I bought it. It was not bad but it could be better. I tried to take the cover off it to work on the foam but the foam was part of the...

Below is a link to a instrument cluster taken off a 2008 BMW R1200R. Might be an option.

I like the penny in the spring idea. That is clever and a lot safer than trying to pull on the spring with something. I will need to remember that trick.

Parabellum looking for a 2015 R1200R
I contacted Parabellum to see if they were planning on making a Scout fairing for the new water cooled R1200R. I received a reply from Brenda saying that they are very interested and they are trying to find a water cooled R1200R to do the fitting and testing. Brenda said that if someone would be wil...

Re: R bars on an RS?
Scott: Below is a link to a web site that lets you compare the ergonomics of different bikes. I was looking at the R1200RS. I currently have a 2008 R1200R that I installed bar risers on to get the handle bars to the place I like them. I compared the ergonomics of my 2008 R1200R with 1" X 1"...

Re: Rattle in right cylinder
All of your farkles from your 2008 will fit on a R1200R up to 2014. One option would be to strip off all of the farkles from your existing bike and mount them to a 2014 R1200R. You will get the new cam head engine as well.

Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles
My fuel strip is currently out. It says the tank is empty all the time. I am taking the bike in next week for the rear flange recall and a new fuel strip. I know that I can go 200 miles on a full tank. When I fill the tank I set the trip meter. I can live without the fuel strip but If I am taking it...

Re: Went to the dark side...or blue one in my case
Dave: The blue and grey 2015 RT is a VERY sharp looking bike. If I was to change bikes right now that is the bike I would get. The only concern that I have is how hot is the bike in the dead of summer? Can you adjust the windshield to get more air when it is hot and less air when it is cold. Good lu...

Re: Brake Bite
I put the EBC Double H pads on my 2008 R1200R over the winter. This is mt first season using them. They do have a little better bite than the original pads did They do have a "whee" noise when you put on the brakes. I normally wear ear plugs and I can not hear the "whee" noise wi...

Re: Engine and Transmission Noise
I needed to make an appointment to take my bike in for the rear flange recall and a fuel strip so I stopped by my local BMW dealer to make the appointment and to have one of the techs listen to my bike. I started the bike and it did the clack clack thing. He agreed that it was the timing chains slap...

Re: Engine and Transmission Noise
Don: Thanks for the reply. I thought that was going to be the case but I started hearing some noises and right away the worry beads came out and I started fearing the worse. When I started hearing the transmission noise I thought it was just looseness in the transmission so I put the bike on the cen...

Engine and Transmission Noise
History of the bike: It is a 2008 R1200R with 53,000 miles. I do my own service and am currently using Castrol 4T 20W-50 engine oil. I change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. I changed the original transmission oil at 24,000 miles with BMW 75W-140 synthetic gear lube. I just changed the transmis...
