Re: Fitted GS Hand Guards to my 2012 R1200R

This is from an old thread but it still seems relevant. I made a 2 piece mount for the inside end that allowed me to have both mounts look the same and involved just a little shaping and bemding of aluminum (3/4" flat bar) and painted it to match the bike's silver parts. I used some heavy 20 mi...

Re: Planing a longer trip. Need some advice.

Bamblys, I just returned from the area a couple weeks back and went from Monument Valley to Capitol Reef. Hwys 24 and 95 are incredible. We were going to take Hwy 261 but the Moki Dugway got us spooked. Towards the Monument Valley end it drops over 1,000 in 3 miles on a dirt road (or from our direct...

Re: Mail order "custom" seat?

I have had many seats over the years, primarily from Corbin since they are 30 miles away. I am of the belief that to have a truly custom seat you need to be fitted at the manufacturer's shop. The Corbins worked for me because when I rode out of the shop it fit my bony butt like hands cradling it. Th...

Re: BMW car

florency, First, which model? 3 series are much better than 7 series with 5 series between. We currently have a '07 Z4 3.0si and it has been very trouble free but it still has low mileage. Older cars were probably less prone to some issues but that goes back maybe 10 years. Are you going to buy a ce...

Re: Any Formula 1 fans here

Let's see if I can un-kill this thread. I may have gotten overly exuberant in my last post since I love F1. It looks like New Jersey is still on for 2013 but does anybody know where the Austin race is at right now? With Kimi back and Vettel/Red Bull looking to become the new Schumacher/Ferrari thing...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

Holy poo, did I just hear Mike say it was that good? I absolutely cannot wait to get a little taller version. Crap, I need to wait since I am getting the Touratech bar risers and it will probably set me up another inch on top of the inch I already want. I can't wait to hear what Dave says. Could thi...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

Finally, here is what I can tell you about my test ride with the prototype CB windscreen. First off, as has been posted before and as just stated by hjsbmw it is pretty much impossible to make a screen that will make everyone happy, especially with a naked bike that wasn't originally designed for a ...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

I took some comparison pictures for reference sake. I also got about 30 miles of test riding in. I will write more later but I will say that this is the screen I'm taking to Utah this year for a 3,000 jaunt. It is not perfect, it is not an AeroFlow, we ride a bike designed as a naked, this is good, ...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

This showed up this morning. As you can see it is quite a bit narrower than the old model and is rounded at the bottom and sits completely above the headlight. Joe is about 5'11" and I am 5'8" but have short legs so figure our torso lengths are close. The comparison screen is an old 22&quo...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

I spoke to Joe for quite a while on Thursday. Joe is very passionate and energetic and sounds like he takes his job very seriously. He is basically the designer/GM and has been doing this a while. As posted by Daveyator he was about to give up and go with good enough since he was just out of time bu...

Re: ISO: Extended warranties not brokered by Contego

I was shopping for an extended warranty the last week of the wife's F650GS twin's factory warranty. Yeah, I felt I needed it, learned a lot about that bike in the last year. I called around and ended up contacting Western Service Contracts since they are near home in Menlo Park, I think. I actually ...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

I just received an e-mail from Joe. As has been posted this thing is giving him fits. He said that he just cut several new designs (7 ?!?) but I don't know what that really means as far as variation from what we have seen. Joe did clear up my misconception that there is a lot of flare at the top, he...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

xprof, Where does the top edge of the screen come in relationship to your head right now? I got similar results with my R1200GSA with the Tobinator and a very oversized CeeBailey screen that ended much closer to my head than I think Joe will do it. I learned to close my face shield after 3 bees on 2...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

Well the new shield looks a little different from the older version but I still see that flare at the top. Since CeeBaileys does a lot of aircraft windscreen work I am sure they have a good reason but with our lower speeds (compared to an aircraft - most of the time  ) I wonder if it might ...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

I wouldn't worry about bending the mount like Don said. It is a very mild steel. Mine was bent way out of shape by an errant sea kayak and I easily bent it back into shape. I was just careful and bent it back little by little. If it is putting too much pressure/tension on the screen it may start sen...

Re: '09 R12R Micro Flooter Lights from Wunderlich ???

I had these lights on my R1200GSA and loved them. I was surprised at how much light they throw out there. I traded an R1150GSA Adv. for the R1200GSA and they were installed by the previous owner so was very happy when I found out how much they cost, pretty pricy for lights. The installation and swit...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

I wonder if the "snowmobile" reference is about having the windscreen include extensions to also cover the handgrips. Knowing that there is a good chance that there is a screen that will work up to 70 mph for most of us is great news. I can't believe how much effort has gone into this part...

Re: Quick Seat related question.

I have had at least one of each and many, many Corbins. I am aways leery of ordering an aftermarket seat since I believe you need to be custom fitted at the shop for them to realize their full potential. But with that said I have to admit that my Sargent is one of the best seats I have ever had and ...

Re: CeeBaileys needs our help, there is a big payoff for all

Update for those who care. I got an e-mail from Joe at CB and he said that the screen is giving him more problems than expected and he has tried over a dozen different designs to date. He feels that he has found the one that is most acceptable and is working on a screen to fit the sport screen mount...

Re: New Owner: R1200R Classic - tubed tires

I know exactly what the concern it is regarding not having tubeless tires but I had to stop and think about it recently. I have owned mostly bikes with tubed tires, some recently and one a decently performing bike requireing performance tires. So I think about the H-D Road King Classic, 2ea BMW F650...
