Re: Replacing the R1200R with what bike
Mine is factory lowered so quite okay for my 29" inner leg! It is quite a bit heavier than the R though...

Re: Replacing the R1200R with what bike
Traded my R1200R (twin cam) for R1200GS LC earlier this year. Brilliant, capable machine. More comfortable than the R, and faster too if you want that. If you can stand the way it looks, get a test ride. You may be surprised!

Re: A Water Cooled Lost R1200R
Hated the blue when I saw it at NEC(UK)! But in your photos it looks good and saw one in the sunshine to-day. Impressed.

Re: More on new R12R with Video
BMW used to charge extra for centre stand, though it is often included as part of a pack of extras.
Also, publicity shots are often shown without for aesthetic reasons.
So I doubt stand will be omitted!

Re: felt a bit of a difference between 09 and 2014
I believe the tighter feel is down to the redesigned and stronger front fork. I too had an '09 which I loved, but my '11 I love even more. It handles better, the engine is smoother, torquier and more responsive. Not a moments regret! However, with the new model due next year, perhaps I would wait an...

Re: Front wheel bearings?
Many thanks all. Never use power washer for very reasons you mention. Especially on bikes with their nooks and crannies. I read up in Haynes manual about changing bearings and they suggest heating housing to 100 degrees centigrade - how do you do that without distorting the wheel! When I was younger...

Front wheel bearings?
The front wheel bearings on my '11 R1200R are beginning to go at 13,000mls - no play but mechanic says the are rumbling.
Should I replace them? Surely they should have lasted longer? Anybody else had them go so soon?
Also I wonder how easy to replace...

Re: Getting old and decrepit question
I rode BMW scooter while my R was being serviced. Overall very impressed! At first strange sensation of sitting on top of machine rather than in it. Soon got used to that and it handled well. Performance very impressive. Was amazed how quickly it accelerated from 60 to 80 whilst overtaking. As far a...

Re: Tell I'm crazy.....or not!
For me the advantage of one key for ignition and cases is a big advantage. Also I hate cases which cannot be left unlocked(a Givi I had could only be shut with the key). I like to be able to stop, open the top case, have a snack or whatever without fumbling for a different key buried deep in ones cl...

Re: Mad Stad Robo Brackets
I notice on the Mad Stad website that the R1200R shown is 2011 which uses a different screen mount bracket to the earlier model(even though the screen itself is the same). Maybe this explains the problems you are experiencing!

Extended warranty
Just a heads up on non BMW extended warranty. I recently had a reasonable quote from UK based Warranty Direct who I have used for my car and found to be a good no nonsense firm to deal with. However on reading policy and checking directly I found that the ECU is not covered - probably the one compon...

Re: Question by a new member from the UK
If the bike has ABS(not standard)then I believe there is a pump in the braking system, but it not a servo.

Haynes manual R1200R/GS/RT
There is a new Haynes manual covering the twin cam models. Full title: BMW R1200 Dohc Air-cooled Service and Repair Manual: 2010-2012 (Haynes Service and Repair Manuals) [Hardcover] Phil Mather (Author) Just received mine from Amazon UK but is no longer in stock. Nippynormans also sell it. Seems to ...

The fitting is exactly the same so should be no problem. I have comfort seat on my 2011 R and find it more comfortable than standard seat on my previous 2009.

Service interval confusion.
I do comparatively few miles each year so typically I might take bike for annual service at perhaps 4000mls. The dealer will then say it needs a service again when it reaches 6000mls! This seems illogical and I would expect to have it serviced one year later or when it has done a further 6000mls. Ca...

Re: kick stand pivoting a R1200R
I remember test riding a BM about 40 years ago(!), and the dealer showed me how you could spin it around by tilting it onto one side of the centre stand. Apparently a designed in feature. With subsequent ownership it was a feature I found useful on numerous occasions. The stand design on these bikes...
