Re: Higest vs lowest gas milage?
According to Fuelly, my average is ~46mpg, with a best ever of 67.3mpg (mostly lugging it on secondary roads). The very lowest I've done was 25mpg & that was stuck in a lot of traffic riding around NYC.

I also have the Kriega. I throw it on the pillion for day trips where I need to carry a rain suit, or run some errands. I use the hard sidebars for longer trips.

That's the combo I have. Love both bikes for different reasons.socalrob wrote: A great combo ownership would be an R bike and a GSA.

Re: R1200R vs. R1200GS
An observation and a question for you folks with GS and R experience. The observation is the the pictures I've seen of GSs have windshields that resemble those used on the Rs in size, shape, and attitude angle. In addition, the windshields seem to be set farther forward than on the Rs. The question...

Re: R1200R vs. R1200GS
I can help here! I currently have a 07 r1200gs. It is a great bike and is very capable. It will handle every bit as well as a R1200R but due to the height and size of the front tire (19") it feels very odd. I just test rode and 08 r1200r. 1. R is lighter and feels much lighter then the GS. 2. ...

Re: Trusted the computer: RAN OUT OF GAS!!!!
Riding in very high winds, at speeds between 70-90mph, with BMW saddlebags, and the Z-Technik windscreen I ran out of gas 12 miles out of town, with 199.6 miles on the trip-meter, and 20 miles to go on the computer. Before this I had been going 220 miles on a tank with the sports screen, and no lug...

Re: Better MPG
Depends entirely on how aggressively you ride. If you accelerate quickly & don't short shift, your mileage will suffer. You'll have more fun, but at the expense of fuel. My bike ridden moderately is in the mid-high 40s. Riding lazily on the highway, I'll get around 50MPG. Aggressive riding drops...

Re: side case parts drawing or photos
I don't think those are available as separate parts. I think that is part of the bottom case part. Sadly, that's the expensive bit of the cases....
Try beemerboneyard They might be able to score you a used bottom case part for cheaper than a new replacement.

Re: Second bike ??
I recently went thru a similar question. I had been interested in getting into more off-road riding, but as I live in NYC, needed a bike that I could ride to the dirt. So I considered bikes like KTM & Husqvarna for their dual sports. I'd also toyed with the idea of getting something a bit sporti...

Re: What is is with these dealers???
Another possibility is that they don't have a demo bike of that model available. Most of the dealers I've been to, pull a bike from inventory for demos & keep the rest on the floor for selling. If they only have 1, it won't be a demo. I believe the F800ST hasn't been the biggest seller, so there...

Re: BMWMOA Gettysburg Getaway Weekend
We are planning on stopping in Philly for Revzilla on the way down. If any locals have suggestions for a place for lunch there, I'd appreciate it.
We'll see you at the reception on Friday night if we don't see you on the ride out.

BMWMOA Gettysburg Getaway Weekend
I know of at least 2 R1200Rs headed to the Gettysburg weekend in April, both from NYC. Anybody else heading there in April on their R1200R?

Re: battery trouble
I got an Odyssey when my 2nd BMW battery ate itself in less than a year. The Odyssey has been brilliant.... lots of power to start, even in the cold & after sitting a couple weeks. No problem with driving all the heated gear. One downside, you have to trim it to fit. It's just the plastic fins, ...

Ended up getting a 2012 R1200GS Adventure. Love the boxer motor, and I like the extra wind protection for cold weather riding.
