Tail Case/Remus Carbon/Throttle Lock-for 2010 Hexhead R1200R

After 83,000 miles on my 2010 BMW R1200R I made a change. Guess this is my 2nd last bike, since I thought the BMW would be the last. I’ve been fortunate to get to ride longer than most and I keep going to lighter, smaller, easier to handle bikes to deal with changes in age (almost 76) and strength. ...

Re: Another Tire Thread

I've gone through 6 sets of PR3s on the R1200R and think they are excellent. I don't think you can beat the grip, wet or dry, they warm up very quickly and am comfortable running them to the edge. I have never gotten the milage that some people state, but we have lots of chip and seal roads and hot ...

Front Wheel Spacer Bushing

While changing tires (many changes in 45,000 miles) I have noticed that the "spacer bushing" on the left side of the front wheel is getting grooved by the seal of the wheel bearing. I think the grooving is somewhat normal but wondered if I should flip it end for end and use the new surface...

Re: 2010 R12R, Final Drive Oil change

Don't forget...the final drive fill plug is an allen head, not a torx. I already made that mistake.

Re: Maintenance Reminder- Torx vs Allen

So, I guess we are up to four Allen head bolts...at least on my 2010 R1200R.

Final Drive fill
Trans. fill
Oil Drain
valve lash adjusting screw

Thanks for the input from everyone. Next weeks project is installing new Ohlins shocks after 43,000 miles.

Maintenance Reminder- Torx vs Allen

I try to pay attention to all my maintenance tasks on my 2010 R1200R...but I missed this detail. Why BMW would feel the need to insert 2 Allen head plugs in a bike full of Torx head bolts is beyond me. Anyway, I missed the difference and stripped out the head on the final-drive fill plug. It’s not t...

Re: R1200R 2010 Generator Belt

Thanks for the additional input Don. Hope you had a safe and enjoyable ride in the far north, at least far north to me. I'll replace mine at 36k and have a look inside the cover.

R1200R 2010 Generator Belt

A search of this subject found Don's comment that the 24k mile replacement was no longer valid, since it applied to the R1150. My dealer printed out a 131 BMW maintenance check sheet and it says to replace the belt at 36k miles. I looked on my CD (it says 01/2010 in the footer, so it should be curre...

Re: Time for new skins - PR2's ?

I ran Metzler Z6s, Z6 Interacts and Mich PR2s on another bike. Not a direct comparison but all were on the same bike. I didn't like the turn in feel of the Z6s and I thought the hardness gave much less feedback than other tires, but they got very good mileage. I then tried Z6 Interacts and they were...

Re: Air filter and spark plug change recommendation

I hope I'm not overlooking the obvious, but to get to the plug you need a good stick coil puller, not that stupid plastic thing. I know people who removed the coil with a screwdriver and regretted it later. Just a thought.

Re: Tire milage for Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires

I typically get poor tire life due to our very abrasive roads (chip & seal, Ark), so anything over 6K miles on tires is good for me. I've gone through 3 sets of PR2s on an FJR 1300 and know they stick very well so I was hoping for more milage on the R1200R. The bike came with PR2s and I got 6600...
