Re: Brocken latch on BMW Panniers
Yes, to the question of using the case with a broken latch. Bike fell over in garage, landed on case, broken latch. Having seen the pin retainer approach, and needing a quick fix, I simply drilled a hole through the case flanges and the bike bracket...put a bolt through and a locknut. Works fine - I...

Re: 2nd to 1st gear false neutrals - 04 1150R
Aside from the fluid change advice (can't hurt!), I can definitely validate the "preload" comment. I was also missing good shifts, since i was shifting the "old way" - pull in clutch, foot-push the shift lever. A vastly improved approach was mentioned on this site a while back. B...

Re: FD OEM fluid color?
I was not seeing any leakage...til it was too late. When the first leakage was seen, the level was still ok. I believe I had a brain fart regarding the fluid change intervals.

Re: San Diego potholes from Hell!
Indeed! A San Diego area resident here. Not just the rain, but our derelict city govt. has squandered so much $ to pay retiree pensions...there's scant little for services and ROAD REPAIR! OK, on the other hand, we get to go ADV-Riding - on the paved roads! Test your cycle autocross skills daily! Do...

Re: FD OEM fluid color?
Not to imply that they are related...but, I thought the Redline Shockproof gear oil would be the best I could do to lube my final drive. Seemed cool. A long time later, after seeing some leakage, then on my way to the repair shop, there was a repidly increasing grinding noise and feel. Indeed, it wa...

Re: Low Fuel Light Problem....Please Help
Sounds like very poor trouble shooting logic at the shop. Since the hose at the pump came off, that gives a poor indication of their mechanic skills. It's way too suspicious that their work on the pump and hose - with the fuel level sensor as a part of that assembly - suddenly went bad. Face it, and...

Re: 2002 R1150R gas mileage
My gas mileage is not much different that yours - city driving noted (02 R1150R). There is a LARGE difference between city driving and highway mileage. The stop-and-go really lowers the gas mileage. I average a bit less than 40mpg in city driving - and I can really tell if there is more stop-and-go ...

Yup, same here. It only happened a couple of times...fleeting at that. Next opportunity, just pulled the starter (easy) and cleaned and lubed the gears and shaft. ALL QUIET! Easy stuff...

Re: Where do you hide your extra key?
HEY EVERYONE! This one is too easy. I bought a flat head spare key from the local BMW dealer. Along with that, they sell a velcro envelope. It has a fold-over flap to enclose the key. The backside has adhesive - just stick it under the slim plastic fairing that runs from the tank along/under the edg...

Re: New Member - New R1150R owner - Nervous as hell !!
Dude, quit worrying and relax. You're experiencing a bit of pre-owner anxiety - that's all. These bikes are VERY reliable. Bought my 2002 R1150R with 28k miles in 2005...now have 58k miles. NO problems of any type. Just do the usual periodic maint items. Just did a ride to NorCal and back...1712 mil...

Re: Hey...another battery thread!
I bought the Odessey battery. I kept reading about the termial adapters, or whatever. When I installed the battery, all I needed to do was bend the existing terminal ends, that's all, problem solved, just that easy. Oops, while visiting friends, I left the the key in the on position for 45 minutes. ...

Muffler Mod
A riding buddy has a K1200S and has developed a need to modify the muffler. As I looked at it to give him advice - I urged him to hold off until I could get some info. The muffler has a large diameter connection to the cat converter, and looks like it is spot welded to the converter. He wants to sho...

Re: Another Windshield Question
I did not like the look of the touring screen. I realized this when I had it on the R and I did not want anyone to see me. Sooooo, back to the tinted sport screen. Then, before a long touring ride, I installed the Laminar Lip - it does well to throw the airstream up, just enough. Then I added the Ae...

Re: Oil level slowly dropping
And after all that, there's the difference of parking on the side stand versus the center stand. If you always park on the side stand, there is some oil that can collect in the cylinder rather than drain back to the sump. Upon starting, there it goes, poof, into a blue puff out the back on your next...

Re: ergonomics and my aching hand
I'd seen the foam grip covers in the past, but I heard that they would inhibit the grip heaters. Now, you and they confirm that they work AOK with the heaters. This is great news, since I have wanted a fatter grip handle all along. So I hit the link and bought some - thanks for the tip.

Re: east coast canada plan
I can only surmise that the roads are in tune with motorcycle riding, so to speak. Not that I have been there, but some friends from the east coast made a cycle visit there and reported back...uummm, not a BMW affiliated group you see. Their brand of riding has them going in excess of 160mph, with o...

Re: Some Aeroflow questions
You might also consider their tank wings. I read about them on this forum. I went to them and bought a set. They worked as advertised - the air blast coming up under the windshield and over the tank and hitting the rider in the torso gets diverted quite well.

Re: OK. WHO WANTS AN IMPROVED INPUT SHAFT?
Interesting/interested. Just wondering how the splined extension would be installed. Just thinking out loud (writing out loud??), you could probably get a better tolerance and tightness of fit to the clutch splines compared to the factory, and maybe get some better hardness - and get more strength t...
