Re: Gear Selector Indicator

Its the "information age" you have to know where you are and exactly where your going('cause a faceless voice is telling you) and have a phone in your pocket(if it fits). We now add what gear your in..(sort of useless to me like the rest.....) So - particularly for the BMW boxer - how do ...

Gear indicator wouldn't help me: I've been trying to shift into that "one extra gear" on every oilhead owned since '97.

Perfect timing for winter project. Have you split the bike already? Clutch spline photos are always interesting.

Re: One heated grip

Today was the first time to try the factory heated grips on this bike and only the left side works. Any tips on what things I should check to track down the issue with the right side grip? Back in the day, the common R1150** problem was wire break at outside end of RHS heated grip: not enough slack...

"Still, I have not found what I am looking for, Sputtering" after the sharp turns. With motor running and bike in neutral, you could experiment with the "sharp turn" effect: 1. Keep bike vertical and turn handlebar back and forth through full arc; 2. Keep handlebar fixed in cent...

Re: HELP! 2002 R1150r Problem

Doesn't make sense. Even if ridden hard and put away wet after 70 miles, there's nothing that would spontaneously combust to leave you stranded 48 hours later. But it seems combustion IS the problem. Bad gas or water ingested? But you pulled tank and dissected. New gas afterwards? You've turned the ...

Re: Help with electrical mystery

Sweatmark I appreciate your input. IF fuse 2 is not on the load relief circuit, would you expect all accessories to stay on even while engine start button is depressed? I notice that the tail light goes off during startup and I'm pretty sure it is on fuse 2. My clymer diagram agrees that fuse 2 is ...

Re: Help with electrical mystery

So I changed the relay trigger (relay to my fuse panel) to the wires from fuse 2. Works fine. The accessories powered via the panel still turn off with hitting the engine switch so still seems to be through the load relief relay? R1150R? Mfr date? My BMW SLP cd-rom shows Fuse 2 connected through ke...

Re: Clicky non-start + gas seeping at quick connects

Agreed - battery + fuel connects are separate issues. If you can revive battery, then great but sounds terminal (battery humor). Fuel lines: might be associated with QC(s) but could also be hose-to-QC leak, with misting that's hard to see once the supply line is pressurized. And why aren't we riding...

Re: Help with electrical mystery

Tail light (E9013) or "Side" light (aka City light E9015, that little extra bulb inside headlight). Both are ignition key switched through Fuse 2, and not on Load Relief relay. Choose based on easiest & shortest trigger wire run to your aux panel relay.

Re: Help with electrical mystery

- I have the unit powered via a relayed fuse panel (10 amp fuse) which also powers a few accessory lights that work great (I have tried various different connections on the panel). Guessing that your fuse panel is switched on and off via a circuit on the load relief relay. That relay turns off some...

Re: Why do we love riding a bike?

All of the above.

When I was a kid I loved to read books about early aircraft, ships, other complex machines. Probably why I became an engineer. Later promised myself to fly or sail if given the means and opportunity, or motorcycle as the more attainable option.

Re: Help with electrical mystery

1. Did you get install instructions specific to R1150** bikes?

2. Load relief relay K9120.

3. I'm guessing item 1 is "no" or instructions incorrect due to unrecognized function of item 2.

Re: Miles To The Tank

IMHO you need at least 2000ml (little over 2 lt (1/2 gal+ us) for a range extender on a 1150 bmw. With a little eccon riding that should get you 20+ miles (2ltr). The 1 lt is not enough. FWIW Mike, those are words of wisdom. I carried a liter metal fuel bottle in the past but this year started pack...

Man, I hate turbulence. Made 2 trips to Denver this year, on Rockster (no windscreen) and K1300 (MRA flip-up screen). Except for certain headwind and crosswind conditions, the Rockster "cap" turbulence hits me mid-chest. That K screen's turbulent eddy aims imperfectly at shoulder/chin heig...

I got a "tall" seat from Sweatmark. Might be the standard. It's much better for me. Still I have trouble with my ankle cramping a little. I could slide back onto the passenger seat to stretch out a little. :) Steve - you've got the OE Rockster seat, which was Tall option for Roadster. The...
