Re: 2004 noise from front of engine. overrun pulley?

So if anyone is watching this thread, I took off the belt. Bloody mission since I shortened the swing arm now I have to remove the shock to pull the cover because there is 13mm less clearance than stock. Anyway the noise was not there with it removed. so I guess it is that overrun pulley. It seems ...

Re: 2004 R1150R Normal oil consumption

My Rockster2 uses oil - likely the result of an easy former life. It needs the CycleRob full throttle Nikasil piston ring seating treatment, which I'm trying to apply whenever road conditions and law enforcement proximity allow.

Re: Surge shows up

I haven't played in the throttle body/TPS sandbox, but have been watching the following ADV thread as food for thought.. it's another of Roger's in-depth oilhead topic threads: https://advrider.com/f/threads/tps-alignment-idle-speed-adjustment-beyond-zero-zero.996719/ Just wondering if the comprehen...

As many of you know, the R***R topic at ADV is also a good place for our Roadster/Rockster posts.

Pushrod noise?
Throttle body?
Left side cam chain tension, as James suggests?
Problems associated with alternator seem to very rare.

Re: Power commander

No, you don't need to change anything. Engine management system will adjust fueling via oxygen sensor feedback. But theres a different question: can you benefit from change to air/fuel ratio? My answer is yes - the R1150 does run better with modest addition of fuel. And the easiest way to achieve th...

Re: Ice Blue Rockster

Rockster looks great in gloss finish!

The original flat black versions weather to an "hurriedly applied primer" look. Even the white Edition 80 paint was excessively EU-friendly and lost its gloss quickly.

Re: Rockster Headlights

Disassemble the front end: Remove Rockster "cap", pull straight up at each of 3 corners. Remove top and bottom headlight shell, just a couple of fasteners. Detach headlight - remove the 2 screws mentioned above... you can leave wires connected. Inspect the 2 flexible inserts that the headl...

FWIW, these ADV threads inspired my Rockster1 instrument lights retrofit using LED bulbs: https://advrider.com/f/threads/r1100gs-instrument-cluster-panel-bulb-specs-and-options.710657/ https://advrider.com/f/threads/r1150-gs-instrument-lights-to-leds.754681/ Sooner or later I will do the same to Roc...

CycleRob installed a stainless steel spring clip for each bag to prevent unintended pop offs. Search might find the thread for those interested.

Re: New Suspension

Pretty rare to see new stuff for the 1150R Bikes. Most of use don't feel like putting big dollars into the old bikes that really aren't worth a whole lot except to us in the know. We decided these bikes are going to be in our inventory for awhile (lifetime) so we don't mind spending the cash for th...

Re: Will R1100R exhaust bolt onto R1150R?

R1150R exhaust: 1.75"

If R1100 has aftermarket muffler, then single-piece catalyst/muffler was replaced by intermediate pipe and can. If these are 2 distinct sections, then possible application of the can for R1150, but too many variables to know for sure.

Aha! You painted successfully. Glad the new fuel pump has met expectations. Are fork gaiters split or whole (thusly installed over disconnected fork slider)? You remain the "R1150 Brake Master" (sic) in my estimation. Need to start my own topic for Rockster2 happenings. Thanks for update J...

How much progress at CA36 work zone? It was torn up last June when I rode up from east Bay Area, the excellent 1 lane roller coaster ride nothing but a memory. Oh well that's progress. Is CA3 clean over the top? Good burgers also in Chester. Ok now you've primed the pump for my annual NorCal ride, t...

Re: Speed Bleeder/Bottoms Up

...Here's my question: At the end of the video, the protagonist states that you can bleed from the bottom up with the speed bleeder That seems counter-intuitive. Isn't the whole idea, a valve that allows the fluid to exit but does not permit air to enter? Cam brake fluid enter but not air? If speed...

Ditto. Heated grips, center stand, and accessory socket were Rockster factory options. Edition 80 version lacked only the center stand... My 80 edition (japanese spec) has a centre stand... Interesting. North American version Edition 80s didn't have a center stand, but were otherwise fully equipped...

Re: Noise from Michelin Road 5

Just throwing this out to see if I'm the only one. I noticed a whining noise that seemed to be coming from front end and decided at 140,000 miles it might be the wheel bearings. I installed a set of premium (not internet specials) SKF bearings and the noise was still there. The sound is almost non-...
