I remember hearing somewhere that a dragging rear brake problem on our bikes is generally caused by sticky pins, which luckily are easy enough to pop out, hit with an emery cloth, and lube with plenty of anti-seize.
Good luck!!

Re: 2nd Gear Sticking During Some Upshifts
I'v had this same issue for many many years. It happens only occasionally, often during longer rides when I assume the transmission is hottest. I've tried everything ( i.e., different lubes, weights) but it still occurs. It has manifested itself more as a nuisance than anything else. Let me know if ...

Re: Rear Axle/Swingarm Gaiter(Boot)
I use a nice long zip tie to secure mine and it works well.
Probably nothing got inside but if you want feel free to pull back the boot-- it's flexible--and take a peek.
You won't hurt anything.
If anyone knows the source of a stainless adjustable band I like to know it.

Re: Defective oil filter valve??
You've got to accept that as an owner of an R1150R there are certain quirks with this breed. One is a relatively noisy start-up and noisy at idle. I like this aspect of the bike. It allows me to enjoy what I call the "mechanical-ness" of the bike. Another is the tendency of the oil coolers...

Re: What is BMW waiting for after Toyota Recalls ?
I agree with you here. My experience with my BMW has been quite positive. However, had I had even one major failure that was (A) expensive to fix, and (B) unresolved by BMW, I would be looking at shaft drive Hondas. BMW has almost priced themselves out of my market in any case. It is difficult to j...

Re: Buying a spare Final Drive
I had an opportunity to pick one up a while back on the cheap and didn't take it. Regretting it now--not a that I currently have any FD issues, but since I plan to keep the bike until my dying day, it may come in handy evenutally. With my luck, though, it would have been a drive with an issue. :badg...

I really dig these.
I really hope they keep coming.
I wish every member would let one fly (Haiku, that is).

Re: Long trip accessories?
Scott, I've always been amazed on my long trips at the diversity of the natural elements that I end up experiencing, even in Summer. On one trip in late May, early June, I experienced 90 to 36 degree weather. And it seems that I never avoid rain. I took a trip from Southern Florida to the South Caro...

Go to advrider.com and look to the very bottom of the forum page. You'll see "Wisdom." Click on it an look for a heading titled OVAD. It will guide you step by step through the valve adjustment process and it's a good read even if you feel comfortable with the process already. I've done mi...

Re: Let's make a list of big $ repairs
I think that the repeated discussion of potential repair breakdowns--evidently based mostly upon online posts--has turned into a fixation on this board and others. I think worrying about problems that might never (and probably statistically won't) occur is needlessly preventing people from enjoying ...

Re: Rev Limiter
I have rarely revved mine over 6k, although I regularly shift between 5-5.5k.
I worry now that with 30k miles it's too late to rev it harder, having never really done it previously.

Re: Six years; 72,000 miles
Congratulations!! That's a nice hunk of miles and the bike still looks great--a real testament to our bike's quality and durability (note that I didn't say reliability). If all you've had to fix is a coil I'd say that bike's been friggin great--mine went at 24k. I hope you put another 72k on her.

Thanks for the quick reply, Hank.
That's exactly the bulb I'll use--better light and visibility are certainly worth paying more for.

High/Low bulb replacement
Does anyone know whether I can purchase the high/low beam bulb at an auto parts dealer?
I wouldn't mind missing the dealership.
Thanks.

I've noticed my bar vibes decrease significantly (although it's the nature of the beast) after I perform a valve adjust and TB sync.

Re: Finale Drive and Swingarm repair
For the pivot pins you need the following:
1. a heat gun or propane/MAP torch to heat the pins to break the Locktite 270;
2. a 30mm socket for the locknut on the inboard pivot pin;
3. a 12mm hex socket (I went online and got one a Tooltopia for (I think) $12.00).

You know, sintered pads do apparently wear the disk out faster, but I sure haven't noticed it and I've checked.Airman wrote:Have you noticed any wear on the rear disc using the sintered pads ?
