Re: New F800GT in My Garage
The side cases are 28/27 liters on the F800 vs 32/31 (I think) on the 1150R. Top case is 28 liters.Biff's R wrote:Nice looking bike. How big are the saddlebags compared to those on the R1150R?

Re: Travels with Blanche DuBois: Out West 2013
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride report John! Thanks for posting it.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but at first I thought you were posting while ON your trip...I almost hopped on my bike to meet you in Yosemite!

Same here - not a fan of white bikes, but when I saw this one in person it caught my eye. I like how it shows the beautiful lines of the bike. I usually prefer black bikes.Buckster wrote:I have to say that the white looks very nice! I'm usually not a fan of white on bikes.

Re: New F800GT in My Garage
Your bike looks great and set up nice, how do you find the power compared to the 1150r? And what kind of mpg's are you getting. Mike Thanks Mike. This bike has more zip than my 2004 R1150R thanks to the extra hp, less weight and lighter wheels. My gas mileage is right at 50mpg with all three bags o...

Re: New F800GT in My Garage
Michael, good to hear from you. I'm still looking at the F800GT to trade my F650GS for. I really need something more designed for touring. Can you report how the GT compares to the R1150R as far as highway touring comfort goes? I continue to feel like I'm being "beat up" on the highway on...

Re: New F800GT in My Garage
Thanks Mark. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to get out & ride much but I will. I love the lighter weight of my GT compared to my R1150R. Less top heavy and lighter wheels. Welcome back! The F800GT reminds me of a particular great ride day on Hwy 1, and chatting with a VFR800 ri...

Re: New F800GT in My Garage
You sat on MY bike? Just kidding. When I bought mine, they had the Valencia Orange model as a demo. I had to wait a few weeks for mine, a white one with the comfort/safety package. Was worth the wait. :D If you bought it at SF, it's probably the one I sat on there. Really liked its ergos. I'...

New F800GT in My Garage
It has been a long time since I've posted on this great forum, but just had to share this. I still own a 2004 R1150R, but after nearly 100,000 miles, it was time for an upgrade and the F800GT is just the perfect bike for me and how I like to ride. More details as I get to know the bike and of course...

Front or rear, letting your tire warm up in the sun (more pliable) and using lots of lube are for me the keys to preventing a wrestling match with your tire.

Old on left and new replacement on right.
They fit to the primary plugs - center of each cylinder.

Re: Fuel Filter replacement
David, The bike was running fine before you went in to replace the fuel and air filter correct? If true then odds are that it is something you did or did not do in the process to cause the rough running. Changing both filters does not foul your plugs so that's not an issue. The only things I can thi...

Re: Fuel Filter replacement
Great advice from boxermania above, so to help illustrate, here's a photo. Note the marked tape I use. (tip #2 from boxermania) One thing I'll add to his advice above is don't use a lot of torque when tightening down the flange to the tank. Those screw threads are easy to strip. You just want enough...

Re: Winter Riding Gloves
I agree with AndyRR...heated Gerbings is the only way to go. I use them along with GS hand guards and even heated grips if I really need the the heat. My fingers are always toasty warm.

Re: Top box or side cases?
I use both a top case and the BMW side cases. The top case is a low profile Pelican case mostly used for my camera gear. A top case can also provide a back rest for a passenger which for the tentative first timer really helps. No fears of sliding off the back on acceleration. As for using side cases...

Re: 12k Service Cost
Excluding tank removal/install, about 2 hours for your first time. Mostly depends on how dirty your fluid is and if you have any stubborn air bubbles to contend with. Also, part of the bleed procedure involves putting wood shims between the brake pads to push the pistons so that adds to the time inv...

Re: 12k Service Cost
I have not learned how to do the abs and clutch bleeds, but am tempted to learn. Fully comfortable with valve adj and TBS and oils, and filter, added accessory fuse panel, change my own tires (now), alt belt, starter, etc. John, The clutch and abs bleed is really not difficult to do. I've done 6 on...

Re: yellow or red for rear indicators
Zeke, Many years ago, I would order my red turn signal bulbs from this company : http://www.lightlens.com/coloredbulbs.htm Haven't used them in years and I notice they no longer carry the bulb I used for my R1150R - a LB1156R No Fade Bulb. They do carry red LED lights but I have no idea if they woul...
