Oldest Beemer Currently Running
Who here owns and operates the oldest Beemer? Until 2002 I had a 1974 R60/6. Ran fine. Weak brakes.

Re: Another newbie to the R!
Surging occurs, predominately on pre-2004 models of the R series, because the Motronic ECU does not provide an infinite range of fuel maps to cope with the 40 + different blends of summer, winter, US, Euro gas that are out there. At low load and low, steady throttle openings, the map tries mightily ...

Re: 500 Mile day! (and a question)
I think you did an excellent job of describing the "shaft effect" of the rotating mass associated with the driveline. You also seem to be really in tune to that feeling (perhaps more so than others).

Yes, the Boxer engine (by design) uses more than the expected amount of oil during the first 6000-24000 miles. Very hard coated cylinders and hard rings get broken in (depending on each riders' individual style) over a longer period than the typical modern bike. 1 quart for 1000 miles is a factory s...

From Around the Boards
"The general consensus on the various BMW boards is that the Bridgestone BT020's are one of the best all around tires for bigger, heavier bikes. They tend to square off quickly, but are still good all around tires. There is also consensus that there are better choices than the BT020's. The Z6 s...

Let's see....R1150R; Rockster; R1150GS Sport; R1150RS I just ride through all of 'em and never really notice the differences nor think about it. I'd say there is no gap between 65-80. There is a different feel for when to shift up/down. But as Biff said, don't let it be an issue. There is a slightly...

Baseline for an '04 R1150R (stock) is $7000 retail. For system cases, windshield, up to date services, and fresh tires you might add another $500-1000. Most other accessories add no value. (Maybe something for the seat.) Mileage is less a factor unless it exceeds 6000 miles per year. There are plent...

Typical Comments
The Usual Comments: In a way, it's tough to get over the way the BMW R1100R looks. It manages to seem both organic and crystalline at the same time. It looks industrial in some parts, neo-deco in others, and insectlike in yet other places. It looks like something a geezer might ride. I have the susp...
