Re: Don't Hesitate to Ask Questions!

Thanks for the encouragement Wayne, I always wonder if I can use car antifreeze (e.g. Toyota super long life coolant) in our boxer’s radiator? My bike sees 78°F to 93°F throughout the year 8)

Cheers,

Re: Water in final drive cavity

Water will get into the hollow steel hub from the hole at the center of the rear wheel. BMW has a plastic plug (part# 36317665843 - USD$7.27 )for the hole but I doubt its effectiveness in sealing out the moisture and water. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN5637.jpg http://img.photobu...

Re: Transmission Breather grease weepage - cause???

I read somewhere that using a too high viscosity gear oil or too low ambient temperature will lead to an oil spewing breather. The gear oil gets flung around in the box when it is cold and thick, coating and blocking the breather from inside. When the gearbox/FD is gradually warming up, the expandin...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Singapore.

I didn’t get bikermeow’s permission to post this photo so I need to do some censorship to the pic.

Look at how his shorten paralever torque arm tilting the FD comparing to my stock setup.

Re: Your key is where?

I just tried my roadster’s original keys, there are magnetic. You might want to try your luck with the flexible magnetic pick up via the gap between the side panel and the rear frame. please ignore the circle in the pic http://sv53.wadax.ne.jp/~remotion-jp/contents-image/r1150r-8.jpg http://www.sams...

Re: trans & FD oils and crush washers

I changed mine last week, Redline Shockproof Heavy in the transmission and Mobil 1 SHC 75W90 in the FD.

The drain plug of the transmission has the same crush washer as the filler plug. Measuring 22mm X 18mm (part number 07119963300) and torque to 30NM for both plugs.

Re: Stumped - and frustrated - by high idle speed

My guess, air leakage somewhere between the cylinder heads and the throttle bodies (butterfly valve).

Any chance you left the vacuum ports open after your throttle sync? 8)

Re: Help.. found rubber cap

Hi Scott, does your bike come with servo brakes? As far as I know, FTE is the manufacturer of the servo hydro unit of our bike. Parts with FTE stamping should be related to the servo hydro unit.

What is the size of the rubber plug? Does it look like a bleeder nipple rubber cap?

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

When I look at the diagram in Page 1 again, I realized there isn’t any ignition advance control at all if the 0°/360° HES is triggering the ignition coil directly. While taking an afternoon nap under the coconut tree, I have this revised diagram on my mind. In short, the injectors are triggered by t...

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

IMHO, the adjustment at the HES plate is only adjusting the reference triggering point for Motronic. The actual ignition advance timings are stored in the Motronic memory (aka ignition map) which varies according to engine rpm, load and fuel quality (not applicable to our roadster). Adjusting the HE...

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

This is getting interesting =D> If the HESs are triggered at 0° and 180° respectively, does the Motronic starts counting when the 180° HES is triggered at BDC all the way to the required spark advance angle which is between 0° and 43° BTDC? :-k (ignition timing = 0° to 43°BTDC, according to R1150R m...

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

I am still sceptical towards this diagram, it seems the injector always spray fuel to a shut intake valve. Like you said, it is best to hook up a scope to verify the injector firing timing in relation to the crank angle :-k

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

If you look at the R1150R wiring schematic, pin 2 (yellow/grey wire) of both injectors are connected to pin 20 of Motronic. Meaning both injectors will fire simultaneously, dumping half load of the required fuel every time Motronic grounding pin 20. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/37002...

Re: Understanding the operation of the Motronics 2.4 ECU

I always wanted to know how the R1150R deals with the lean oxygen air at higher altitude. The bike doesn’t have an atmospheric sensor nor an intake manifold pressure sensor so I reckoned the oxygen sensor will be used to trim the injectors duration when cruising at higher altitude roads. What will h...

Not only bling but it binnnngs as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut6pObe4OcQ I believe the BMW filter wrench is made by Hazet (pn# 2169) at approximately €14 each. Any thin wall filter wrench with 74mm across the flats and 14 flutes will do the job. Personally I am using a KTC without a proble...

Re: Over Torque - Just Curious

Not my wheel bolt but from a guy who read the wrong scale on his torque wrench. He torqued it to 105lb/ft (142Nm) instead of 105Nm. So the 35% of extra torque has sent the bolt beyond its yield point (somewhere between 105Nm - 142Nm) and elongated it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSC...
