Re: OIL Filter removal issue

Use the BMW tool but drill 3 holes in at (every 120 degrees ) Then use that as a template against the filter and drill three holes in the oil filter. Attach the tool with 3 screws to the filter and undo.

Re: fuel mileage?

The best that I get is 48,25 mpg. On average it will be closer to 42,1 mph here. I am 182cm tall and I have the BMW windscreen fitted.
I use Vpower from Shell Irium plugs from NGK and synchronise the engine with the carbtune . Standard airfilter fitted.

Re: New to the gang and seat questions!

The BMW screen is rubbish for taller people. I am 182 cm and it created lots of windnoise. Had to shorten the screen . Had to cut 4cm from the top.

Re: New to the gang and seat questions!

Hi Johan
Having the foam improved and a special material so you aren't sliding backwards and forwards anymore was in total 220Euro. I had the front made slightly higher (flatter) as the standard seat. Tiger Leathers are located in Den Haag. They have a site too.

Re: Shocks

If they are not leaking get the springs fitted from Hyperpro. They are progessive springs and they really make the bike so much more comfy. No problems on bad roads now .

Re: R1100RT: Problems with engaging first gear from stop.

Hi,
First check that the clutch cable is okay. Is it not sticking? Then adjust free play as it says in the manual. But as mentioned before it sounds like the bike requires a service too.

Re: Deisel Motor oil?

Motorex do a special oil for the BMW boxer. This oil is superb. My oil consuption wasn't a lot but improved with the Motorex. Mine is the 15W50. But the Castrol synthetic 10W50 is also very good. Synthetic beats the mineral oil in my view.

OoPs very late replying here. I use the bike from March up to December here. Just before they start gritting the roads I stop riding. And if we are lucky March is the last month with some snow here. I do understand German but I prefer English anytime really. The bike is doing okay and is very reliab...

Re: 1998 75th An. R1100R - Help me set it up for touring

I have got a 1999 R1100R. The biggest improvements I have done are the Hyperpro progessive springs and the Moto techniques bar risers. I also had the seat improved as the foam that BMW uses is very soft and the seat cover makes you slide forwards all the time. I usually use a carbtune synchronise th...

Re: A serious question about synthetic oils

I use synthetic oil the 15W50 from Motorex. Motorex boxer was made for our bikes. My bike is hardly using any oil since I have started using it.

Re: reluctant gear change

If you want to wreck the gearbox very quickly stick to clutchless gear changes. I just use Castrol MTX 75w140 . And adjust the clutch like mentioned in the manual and no problems at all.

Re: r1100r vs r1150r

I would go for the R1100R. I paid 4750 Euro's for my 1999 R1100R with 35000 miles on it. I am very happy with mine and I have really improved this bike.
I have spend a lot of money on mine but I am sure that this bike will keep its value. I am slowly changing mine into a new bike.

Very often a brake fluid change ( not forgetting the brake fluid in the ABS unit) fixes the problem with faulty ABS units while dealers say that they need to be replaced.

Re: New (to me) R1100R

I haven't got that noise on my R1100R but I think your guess is right in thinking it is your exhaust that is creating the noise. I have the standard exhaust still fitted. Do you have no noise when starting up your bike? Mine had a camchain noise which is caused by the left camchantensioner. I had mi...
