Re: Change of oil

I would be fascinated to learn why " someone who knows these things" believes "it would be more sensible to change to a 20/50" from a 10W/50 synthetic. There may be some great reasoning there. For all I know one cannot find 10W/50 synthetic in Greece - maybe it's illegal or somet...

...at 155 lbs, find even the comfort mode, one up, a bit rough... Tie a sandbag on the back if you can't find a chippie for two-up. That failing, pm me for a 2007 swap. Very comfortable old scooter - smooth as silk. All the bugs worked out. :D That 90th is a great looking piece. I know you'll enjoy...

I got a 14l Cortech bag a couple of months ago and I've used it enough to say I like it. Built in padded backpack straps, waterproof...

Re: Highway pegs

http://www.ridingiswonderful.com/page1.php I had great luck with spring-loaded retractable Mick O Pegs crashbar mounted on my Goldwings. Very durable and they're out of any deep turn drag zone when retracted. I'd probably put some on my R12R but I'm not sure I like the look - been thinking about it.

Re: Sluggish take off

Tell me if I'm being too anal. I don't think so. There is usually an obvious reason for torque settings and then some not-so-obvious ones. Any tech who fails to torque a setting when specified should be making a career change in my opinion. Besides, I'm a Porsche guy and we're not just anal about t...

...My fillips are on the side stand and are almost always well over 5 gallons, up to 5.8 when squeezing it hard. I usually look for gas at 220 miles, and at 250 miles I drop speed to 55 and start praying. +1  So, a few tanks with the little screen says fuel consumption hasn't changed that ...

Re: HEADLIGHT PROTECTOR

So the 9" x 9" square piece of Xpel film arrived in the mail. Calling Xpel headlight grade material "film" is akin to calling limestone "whipped cream". I had a bowl that was 1/16" shy of the headlight diameter so I used that to trace my circle. I was hoping a hair...

Re: BMW Panniers/Hard Cases

I'd use JBWeld epoxy; fix the broken loop on to a flat piece of polyethylene plastic stock. If the broken piece is too small to make a good loop, build up the flat piece with a few dots of glue (left first to harden) and plastic filings. Rough up the inside of the pannier and both sides of the flat ...

Re: Is Boxer Durability Unsurpassed?

Great question. And I have no idea other than knowledge of the inherent balance of the engines. That must add up to longer life over long periods. The local Raleigh PD run R12R's hard and like them, I am told. Retirement is 60K miles (in about a year) and those bikes are up for resale with warranty ...

Re: Do You Drive A German Car?

Nearly a year since I purchased a Jetta sportwagen TDI... Uh... wow? I test drove one a month ago with the rep in the front seat egging me on and - honest - it nearly took my breath away. Nothin' to 100 is calm, quick quiet? Perfectly controlled four-wheel drift through a sweeper cloverleaf at 90mp...

Re: Do You Drive A German Car?

Had a 2002 in the 70s, then a year with a 530i, then I was done with BMW cars. Deja Vu! Deja vu all over again. I forgot about olden days.... a 1963 BMW 2000 (in Germany!) in 1973-74; and a 1986 535i from 1990-96. There were both four-door sedans and both tremendous cars for me. I ran that little 2...

Do You Drive A German Car?

Two years later and the '87 Carrera 911 labor of love is nearly restored. The cental door lock- and cruise control modules have gone stupid; and there're still a few minor electrics to sort through. Seems like I got a black-scheme German boxer thing going since last Fall. And there's a navy blue '91...

I'm a r1150r.net Lifer because:

One good self-maintenance tip plus one used equipment purchase through this board more than covered the $60 tab. It only seemed fair to pay my way. Now I can hardly wait for my idle smoothness to crap out so I can re-read Don Eilenberger's long copy on greasing secret little throttle body parts. :D ...
