Re: Blue paint bubbling and peeling off cylinder heads

Post by kirby » Fri Dec 09, 2022 7:37 pm My Rock is an '04 and has over 300K miles. About a year ago I started seeing the mag in the valve coves starting showing signs of corrosion. I removed them on the next heavy maintenance period and soaked them in aircraft paint stripper for a couple of days an...

Trying to figure this out. Will be back east in May. I'll try to keep up on the WV caper and see if I can make it.

Re: Wet Clutch !

Brake fluid is VERY different than engine oil, should be easy to determine which type of fluid. You can't see the splines from the starter. W /11K there is no way there is a problem with splines, (normal riding use), You may have either a front transmission shaft seal leaking or a rear main engine s...

Re: Changed the final drive

Rockster is 31/11 (2,82)
R1100S is 33/12 (2,75
R1150r is 31/11
R1150RT 32/11
Less than 3% difference.
Does show up in 6th gear roll ons w/the bit lower ratio but on a track day un- noticeable. A little more top speed at the rev limit with the 2.82.

Re: The December check in thread....

Thanks riceburner for that explanation. So far winter has not shown up here in any "quit ridding" sort of way but would be nice to get some rain in SoCal for sure. I have some rockster maintence plans to do later in the month that will take it out of riding status for a bit but needed. So ...

Re: Liqui-Moly?

I don't know what the content (% quantity) of the moly in the product mentioned but my manual calls for GL5 gear oil in the rear drive and trans (important). Be aware that high speed roller bearings generally don't like moly because of the high surface area they can tend to "skid" because ...

Re: I'm Baaaaaaa-aack!

Your guess is right, a very unique machine which is truly a jack of all rides, tough and reliable, no can bus electric or other tricks, and maintence is
just some hand tools, a multi meter, a manual, no dealer required...

Re: So I am the only one that comes here anymore..

Greetings! Just back from a 5000 miler on the rock. Starting to get cool here in the mountains but the riding still good. Last month while doing as pre ride check w/the rock on the center stand I could feel a bit of a "bump" while rolling the wheel (rear) and I had never felt that before. ...

Re: Battery Access and Starter Problem Resource

Yes for the under the tank bat on the beemer a pair of short "pig tail" leads connected to the bat terminals with insulating caps over the terminal lugs that extend back to the top of the airbox is a good idea for access when jumping is required.

Capital Idea!

Just back from a reunion in Kansas, fuel is "pricy"(over $4 in some places out west). WX was everything from sunny to sleet..yippy.

The old rock is still meeting the challenge, 4500 miles.

I hate masks....

cheers.

Re: Starter motor whine

I think your right the stop run switch kills the starter as well. It sounded like maybe a blown fuse. If that starter is working it has to be something like a cpu fuse, Seems almost certain to be related to the starter?? New one for me.. Will be interesting to fine out. I will keep thinking but neve...

Re: New Clutch and gearbox leak

Let me add this: I have rebuilt two 1150 gearboxes both w/ high mileage (153K, 135K miles) one because of dog damage and the other because of a "singing bearing. I have a 30 ton press and about a dozen pullers so it was pretty straight forward. One was a GS and the other a std. Roadster. Neithe...
