Spline shaft lubrication time
I am at 75,000mi on My 04 R1150R. I have been religious about maintenance with this bike. I'm not sure i could love another machine as much as this one. I need to replace the swing arm bearings because they are worn and I have it apart to do the spline shaft lube. Several years ago I read about some...

I have been away from the site for a while, but I am looking for the swing arm bushing kit that replaces the roller bearings with bushings. Does anyone remember?

Re: the music in your ears !!
whatever song My mp3 player is spewing at the time. I leave it on shuffle and have everything from Jimmie Dale Gilmore, to Billy Holiday. I am a DJ on a community radio station and often listen to the latest music into the studio, so I never know exactly what I'm going to hear.

Re: New battery drains with heated grips on high
Idle, 1100rpm, high beams, grips on high: 13.65V-13.75V bouncing Those "load test" readings tell me your alternator is AOK. Why? Because in addition to the high beam and grips on Hi, at an idle, it is charging an almost new battery that likely has been run down (Key on, no engine, low bea...

Re: clutch and driveshaft spline issues
I would like to chime in. I purchased My 04' R1150R brand new in the fall of 03'. The $9,995 out of the crate deal offered by the dealer, was to good to pass up. I had all the scheduled maintenance performed by the dealer until the warranty was up.36,000mi. Since then I have performed all the schedul...

Re: You asked why I want a skid plate on My "R"
Because life isn't all about the freeway. Any questions? So its either the freeway or trails? For me its long sweeping curves I can accelerate out of in 4th, or tight switchbacks I can push it through at high rpm's, all on asphalt. Not trying to be argumentative, but I am not taking my number one g...

Re: You asked why I want a skid plate on My "R"
Well...given the way you enjoy your motorcycle?...I applaud your decision...If I had more off road opportunity for riding? I'd have a GS 800 maybe. BTW what kind of saddlebags are those on there? The bags are actually dry boxes, they are plastic, and I fabricated mounts for them. I am looking at a ...

Re: Need help with an issue
Check the throttle cable adjustment.
The enrichment lever you speak of actually just opens the throttle partially to allow the engine to start and idle until it warms up.
Study the throttle cables, and You will see what I speak of. That is where I would start.

Because life isn't all about the freeway. And I am so glad. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii87/bransan/P1060337_zpsfe1470de.jpg I smashed it hard on a rock at Lulu pas near Cooke city Montana. Re: Spline Lubes To be or not to Be
Manual say's 24,000mi. Not a easy job, but well worth the time. I do mine in the winter about every other year.
I have documented some of the procedure on this site. Search spline shaft lube.

Castrol gtx 20w-50 most of the time.
I don't get much winter riding on 2 wheels, so I use 2 cycle oil in the winter, in My Ski-Doo.

Re: Knocking (piston slap?).. new noise..
What year is your bike and the miles? I'm thinking possibly the cam chain tensioner. Could you tell what side it was coming from? I once had a very severe knock that suddenly appeared and thankfully suddenly disappeared. Turned out to probably be a small piece of carbon that broke away from the hea...

I have been buying brake pads from dennis kirk and have had good luck with them. I cannot recommend an aftermarket rotor, but a factory replacement is not that expensive.

Re: engine cutting out
The gas tank vent is the black hose on the right side of the bike coming from under the tank and extending to the frame near the right footpeg. Unless someone accidentally switched the 2 hoses around. Open the gas cap, the hole at the rim toward the rear or seat, is the drain tube. This will allow a...

Re: engine cutting out
Side stand switch! The kickstand switch can be a problem. Sometimes you accidentally hit the kick stand, ( even just lightly tap it) and the engine dies. My riding buddy, ( we'll call him jake) used to have this issue occasionally. He refused to believe he was touching the kickstand, so he paid clos...

Re: Yet another tire thread
They look like 2 different tires to me. I believe You can get that kind of mileage out of a front tire. But in the 40 years I've been riding, I have never heard of any rears going that far. I always get 2 rear tires to 1 front. Maybe you forgot that you changed the rear last year? 58k on My 04' RR a...

I get wet down the back from the helmet dripping, but the rest of the body ...

Re: Yet another tire thread
I'm approaching 18,000 miles on my Michelin PR2's, and they still have grooves and aren't badly squared off. Mainly commuting miles 75 miles/day. Nice tires, I have a new pair from last year but I can't bring myself to take these off when they still have life... My previous tires were Metzeler Z6's...
