Re: Checking Oil level in the grearbox and rear end
On the 08 and newer FDs, how do you refill after draining. The drain plug is on the bottom so the FD doesn't need to be unbolted and tilted. I'm doing the 600 mi service and it calls for a drain and refill of the FD.

Re: Worn FD bearings replaced, it's just my turn.
The Germans must use crappy metals. Input shafts and clutch hubs, FD bearings wearing out before 100-150K miles is ridiculous. Japanese bikes don't seem to have these failures, and automobiles don't either. unfortunately I guess we have to deal with these problems if we want to ride BMWs. I just don...

Re: Spline Inspection Time (high res pics added)
It's odd that BMW has (and has had) wear problems in this area. Cars with standard shift and a similar dry clutch set up never seem to have this problem The disc friction material wears out, but I've never seen the input shaft splines wear out or even need periodotic lubing. What gives, BMW?? Inferi...

Re: Exhaust system question
Mine has a thin sheet metal type gasket where the headers go into the head port. The problem I had remounting the system after jet coating was that the coating has enough thickness to make fitting one pipe inside another difficult. some light sanding inside the pipes may be helpful along with some W...

Re: Got screwed!
The sticky rope plug kits work fine. I've used them and never replace a GOOD tire because of a nail or screw puncture. I'm sure the radial patch inside the tire is even better, if you want to dismantle the wheel/tire.

Moving on, but not away from BMW
Bought a new (08) 1200GS and will take delivery next weekend. Time to put the great and trusty Beakster up for sale. Hopefully I'm not making a mistake as the 1150R has been (and is) one great bike. It'll be in the for sale section as soon as I can get it spit polished enough for pics. This is a gre...

A good pair of small ViseGrips will do the trick.

Re: Brake Squeal
Try loosening the caliper bolts to let them "settle" and retighten. If it is just pad squeal, coat the back of the pads with anti squeal compound, available at parts stores.

Re: Bad day- crashed my Rockster- need tech help
Check that switch, you can unplug it and bypass it to test it. You probably didn't do any major mechanical damage. I crashed my 1150R in April, low sided it at about 35 and it flipped and got both sides. Very expensive to replace all the parts with me doing all the labor (new tank at $1000), but the...

Flyscreen Painting
For those who have painted the inside of their screens, what type of prep did you do before firing up the rattle can? I kind of don't want to do any sanding if it's not necessary.

Re: power commander
Ditto what BoxerM. said. I put one (Techlusion) on my 02 years ago to cure surging (after attempts to "tune" it out) and it cured the problem. I also installed a Remus system along with a high flow air filter and intake snorkel and performance was definitely improved. The bike runs great.

Fuel pump sock/filter
Is there a recommended cleaning method of this screen on the inlet of the pump? I'm changing the fuel filter and was wondering if cleaning of the sock is necessary. It looks fragile, but it's all intact with no crud on it. any advice appreciated.

Re: Fuel Hose Help
Maybe you could screw some small pieces of vacuum hose onto those clamp screw ends as chafe protection. Wrap the clamps with duct tape?? it won't be seen with the tank on.
