Re: R1150R Battery Replacement Problems
Just had to change the battery in my R1150R. Manual says that battery change may reset electronics, and may cause engine to run roughly. It suggests revving engine to full throttle a couple of times. I did that but the engine still runs roughly, and after about five minutes the catalytic converter ...

Yes! I'm often tempted to stuff the box with sound dampening foam to see if that helps. I'll look into what gregor wrote though...Torsen wrote:Do you have this problem? I think my airfilterbox create irinoing noise at 2000-2500 rpm.

Re: Enough of my crowing, I need help!
This culprit was originally discovered by CycleRob. Several years ago, I made a thread about my bike running rough after a battery change and nobody could figure it out. CycleRob then came to the rescue. He actually stared at his Roadster in the garage to see what could actually go wrong during a t...

Re: ceramic coating my headers
Just had a place called NitroPlate in Tennessee do mine. They did an excellent job and the total was $107.00 I've also had them done by Jet-Hot. The NitroPlate was as good or better than the Jet-Hot. Included doing the inside of the header pipes. I'd like to see a picture of the results. Are there ...

Welcome to the club. The nice thing about hitting 100,000 miles in Canada is that the odometer is metric. Mine shows 162,000.Great bikes EH! Indeed - great bikes. And I'm sorry that only the US and Burma, or Myanmar (or whatever) are the only two countries on earth still holding on to this idiot sy...

I like that! maybe room for the tractor manual canister for my camp stove fuel tanks then.
I don't have ABS so perhaps that's where it would go if I did.

- and wonder what I can/should do with all the cavernous space ahead of the battery? It looks almost big enough for a small car battery if you took the bike battery out. I've read that some have installed air compressors there for inflating tires. If I were Goldfinger I'd put a few bricks of bullion...

Re: r1150 gs handguards
I have Bark Buster Storms on my VStrom. They have a very solid (about 1" by 5/16" looking) aluminum bar that wraps in front of your hand and a nice full plastic wind guard. Protection galore. I was just contacting them about my 03 R1150R and they say their S7 Storm will work. http://www.ba...

Re: required reading from a bmw mechanic
how did you find an 03 with only 1200 miles on it in July? that is some luck! the only bike Id consider buying right now (keeping the r still) a dual sport. for true off roading, but MINUS the trailering. I got out of atv's (yamaha raptors) for that. spent more time trailering, and fixing than ridi...

Re: Question about aging headlamp bulbs and eyes.
On HIDs, I've had mixed success. I put them in my Honda Civic Hybrid, and it helped some. The color temperature was too cool blue, so it lost some in that. Look for 5000-6000K I believe, or less. Whatever they say is whiter color temperature. They had a shield that moved back and forth magnetically ...

Re: LED running lights
I bought some Mondo lights for about $135, and they are great for conspicuity (what a word). They put out a diffuse pattern so don't light up the road much, but sure do light up the overhead signs at night! I haven't been flashed for being too bright either, so they're likely doing the job without o...

Re: Some other cold weather ideas
I like multipurpose things. Have outer jacket and pants for motorcycle, that's enough! I layer with heavy flannel, cheapo down jackets from costco that pack away nicely, double as night wear when cold (camping) and can be worn whenever. That sort of thing. This welders gear is a novel idea, but the ...

Re: required reading from a bmw mechanic
I'm intending to tear down my 03 R (6200 miles now) this winter and have a look-see. It is very unused, but seals age, grease hardens, and I noticed a bit of oil coming out of the FD bellows (or very dark road grime). One advantage in getting my nearly new old bike is the decade of history of 'known...

Re: New guy here
I'm pretty new myself, having just got my first BMW. I took up riding again after decades on 4 wheels, and in the last 2 years have 'gone through' 4 bikes, and will be stopping with the 03 R1150R I found last July. It had 1150 miles on it, and was cleaner than showroom new. I paid just under $7K for...

i got my R early July, and put PR3's on it. They were great in the rain last weekend (went to the ND rally at Fort Ransom) but surprised me on a bit of sandy pavement! Almost lost it pulling onto a divided highway when the rear broke loose unexpectedly. I've Shinko 705's on my weestrom, and TKC80's ...

"If you don`t leave it on the side stand for a while first you will get a false (low) reading." Really? Dang! That's how I've been tricked into going too high on the glass. Now I'll leave it on the side stand, check the mailbox, hang my jacket gloves and helmet, THEN pop it onto the center...

Re: could it really have been that easy? valve adjustment...
I just hit 6000 miles on my 03 R1150R and did the valves. It was easy (having owned a dozen VW and done all the maintenance on them) and the reward was an even smoother running engine! I'll get to the fuel lines and disconnects soon, and ALL the fluids (non-ABS so shouldn't be bad). I chose the R115...
