R1150R Quit
I was on my way to work yesterday, I leave at 0410, got about 3 miles from home, about 1.5 miles on Interstate 10, when the engine died, sounded like the bike ran out of fuel, the tank was full . Got towed home form insurance company roadside assistance . When I got home from work, it was 117 F, 113...

Southwest US Heat
We're in the midst of a record setting stretch of temperatures of 110 F +, 43 C . The oilhead needs premium fuel in these conditions, the last time I didn't fil up with premium fuel when it got this hot, when I need a handful of throttle to merge into highway traffic, all I got was a handful of deto...

Re: Temp Sensor
The airbox temp sensor finally tested bad, open . I had to overhaul a throttle body on the right side in December, removed both injectors and they were clean, no deposits on them at 85,000 miles . Had a bit of trouble finding the temp sensor, none of the dealers in Arizona had any found one at Euro ...

Re: AF-XIED? Spiegler brake lines?
I have Spiegler brake lines on the oilhead and two of the airheads . They have an interesting feature, there is a slip joint on the banjo fittings that allows you to take out the twist in the lines that usually occurs on installing the lines . Also here is something to look for on the front brake li...

Temp Sensor
I have an '02 R1150R, had hard starting on a cold engine , now that the temps here in Phoenix have warmed up to overnight lows of low 60's F, the hard starting issue is gone . Other than the temp sensor on the air filter box, is there any other sensors . I've looked at parts sites, realOEM and I can...

Re: Hard Cold Start
Finally got my required parts, a few were not in stock and the Postal Service took a little over two weeks to deliver it to me . All in all not a difficult job, there's the usual grinding down the throttle plate screws, these came out quickly, I was not looking forward to this, I'ce taken apart abou...

Re: Hard Cold Start
Looks like I found my problem with hard starting . Heard an odd noise from the right cylinder, a loud ticking sound like a valve out of adjustment . Found the cable pulley on the right throttle body bouncing around . Looks like I have throttle body overhaul to do . Parts are available from the Bing ...

Re: Any new maintenance work done?
Got this work done 4 months ago, bike quit on the way home from work, 115 F, roadside towing finally got to me 8 hours later, Turned out to be a bad ignition coil, a fat red/orange spark . Replaced the coil and ignition leads, problem solved . While waiting for parts, noticed the front and rear shoc...

Re: Wiring Diagram
I found one confirmed failed bulb, decided to put everything back together and order some bulbs . BMW wants a little over $5 each for these bulbs, the IPC shows three different bulbs for indicator lighting, I ordered one of each . Did some research and it looks like the bulb is an SAE 658, I'll look...

If someone has a diagram for an '02 R, could they post it here .
Thanks !!

Re: Front Brake Pads
I put EBC HH pads front and rear and a great improvement in braking .
Looks like they will need replacement in the next 5,000 miles, for a life of 40,000 miles, so a bit less than OEM pads .
They also cost a lot less than OEM parts .

Re: Do we need more users?
I'm a moderator on an airhead site, just R65's, not a common bike and they stopped production in the mid '80's . Seems like the membership comes and goes, right now we're in a decreasing membership direction . Motorcycles don't seem to have the the same following like they did 20-30 years ago . Look...
