Re: Bike Value and Upgrades
I recently had my 2002 R1150R up on CL and couldn't even get any serious nibbles at $2800. I think the used bike market is shrinking and with lots of bikes on the market, the value has tanked. In a way, I'm glad, though. After coming to my senses I pulled the ad down. No way would I sell my R1150R &...

nOOb questions regarding maintenance at high mileage?
Did a search but couldn't really find anything on point, so I'm posting here. I got my yellow R1150R in 2013 with about 50k on the clock. It currently has 69k. I've done 2 Saddlesore 1000 rides on the bike and I really like it. I've even tried to put it up for sale a few times to get something newer...

Re: Ummm...overfilled oil?
I made the same mistake last year and ended up getting some nasty smoke and blowing oil out through the airbox. Not good! Had it drained and cleaned and now it runs like a top and I'm very careful about topping off oil.

Re: Saddlesore 1000 COMPLETED!
Sounds like a good ride. Were you mostly on dual-lane roads, what sort of speeds were you doing? It was about 60/40 (60% interstate, 40% two lane state highways.) On the interstates I was able to cruise between 75 and 85 most of the time. On two lane roads, probably 65 - 75. My longest stop was may...

Re: Saddlesore 1000 COMPLETED!
Again, congrats. Hopefully you had some music or radio. My first SS1000 was completed without anything to listen to besides motor, wind noise (earplugs), and rainstorm for 6 hours. Promised myself to add audio for any future iron butt rides... Was thankful for satellite radio during BB1500 complete...

Re: Saddlesore 1000 COMPLETED!
Butt was sore but other than that I felt fine. I will say the last 100 miles or so was the toughest part. What made it worse was that the last 46 miles from Espanola to Taos was on a narrow 2 lane that wound through a forest/mountain area so I had to really slow down and watch for deer (it was 10:45...

Saddlesore 1000 COMPLETED!
Back in the early part of the month, I fulfilled a dream of mine that I've been contemplating for at least 15 years (probably closer to 20): I was able to do a Saddlesore 1000 ride (1000 miles or more in 24 hours or less.) I've only done that kind of distance once before in a car, so I was a little ...

Re: Looking at buying this on Friday
If you want it, get it but I would never advise a new rider to start out on a bike that weighs over 500 lbs and can hit triple digits with ease. Yeah, yeah, I know. Lots of people will say "My first bike was a Hayabusa/ZX-14/Electra Glide/Gold Wing/R1200GS etc etc etc and I turned out just fine...

Re: Oil change/sight glass question
Rob: Thank you for the comprehensive instructions. FWIW I think I only put around 3 quarts in. I know there's about a quart left in the gallon/4 liter bottle. OK, since I rode to work today, I went outside to the bike. It's been sitting on the center stand for about 6 hours. Sight glass looks like t...

Re: Oil change/sight glass question
Alright, well, I rode in to work this morning (about 13 miles.) Bike ran fine, no issues, no warning lights, no funny sounds. It's occurred to me that maybe I filled the oil up too much and the reason I'm not seeing a "line" in the sight glass is because the oil is filled all the way past ...

Oil change/sight glass question
Just completed my first oil change on my new-to-me 2002 R1150R. Wasn't able to change the filter because I didn't have the right sized wrench (I bought a generic one from an auto parts store, I guess I need the BMW-specific one?) Anyway, otherwise the change went fine. Drained the oil, filled up via...

Re: My new old bike
Beautiful!
I wish BMW would come out with a true "retro" bike. I think the market would eat it up.
That R90T doesn't look "retro" to me, it looks like a modern naked standard.
Bring back toaster tanks and fork boots!

If the QD's are the original plastic type, I would replace them, tank removal or not.

Tank removal: Secrets/tricks?
I need to install the battery tender SAE connector to my bike, and it looks like it's going to be too crappy to ride this weekend, so I may as well go ahead and tackle the job now. I know there are tank removal instructions in the owners manual, but are there any special tricks or dangers? I've hear...

Re: Batteries and cold weather
I dont ever use battery tenders and don't ever recommend them to any one , you would be much better off buying a higher end charger with diagnostics ($100 to $150 )and occasionally charging your battery and from what I am getting from these battery threads often it sounds like some trouble shooting...

Re: Batteries and cold weather
Thanks for your input Guys. I'll take a look to see if the posts are accessible. If not I'll wire in the charging socket that came with my Optimate II. I know, I should have done it in the summer ready for winter. But hey you're right Biff, the battery is shot. It's been on charge all night and is ...

Re: Heated gear adapter?
What? What do you mean by "adapter"? Which fuses are blowing? No, the R1150** bikes are not CANBUS. How about you call the BMW On-board Accessory Socket located in the starter cover the "socket" for clarity. Sorry for the confusion. I think I've got it sorted out now. I'm...

Re: Heated gear adapter?
OK, let me ask another dumb question. I recently took a long ride and plugged in my adapter (the same one I use for the battery tender, which seems to work fine) to charge my phone. No issues, charged the phone just fine (iPhone 4s.) Then I tried to plug in my heated liner, because I was getting chi...

Re: First long ride...
Ah, well it may have been closer to 5,000 RPM. Either way, I was a long way from red line and it just felt effortless (whereas the few times I had my Scrambler up to 90+ it was straining hard. It just seemed to run out of steam at about 95-97 MPH.)
