Re: Engine bolt won't go back in!!! Help!

Remove the chain tensioner, remove valve cover and understand what is going on. If this is too much, leave it alone and let somebody else do it. You can really mess things up with this one.

Re: Playing with UNI filters.

I had transmission in and out about 6 times in the past 2 years, so to me it was worth it.
Rockster lends itself to "hooligan" stuff like that. Doing it to an RT would be a little too much maybe.

Re: Playing with UNI filters.

With these filters installed, how does the transmission removal process change? Can you avoid lifting the rear sub-frame? I'm also curious about the part numbers of the filters and other miscellaneous parts like the breather hose "oil-water separator". Thanks! You still have to lift the s...

Re: High top gear trans

I had a chance to ride R1150R before the Rockster and it had the tall 6th gear. I didn't like the transition between 5th and 6th, too much of a gap. I am not sure if it makes any difference on the fuel economy, but to me it wasn't "fluid" enough.

Re: ABS system question (s)

My R1150RT has a mechanical speedometer so I still had it working. I eventually bought a used servo and reinstalled the ABS. After driving it for about 160k miles with the servo ABS I didn't like it without. I've had ABS on my bikes since 1991 and it has saved me a few times. Sorry, I assumed you w...

Re: ABS system question (s)

I have two prototypes made. Read through the threads and let me know if you are interested. I will ship it to you. It will protect the electronics and mount it to the existing battery bracket. Factory install and look. The way I look at it, BMWs have no choice but to become classics. We are not look...

Re: ABS system question (s)

You should leave the controller board on the bike either way. It is a cleaner install and there is no need for cutting wires and installing relays. If you are going to read the UKGSER link, please read the whole thread before doing it.

Re: ABS system question (s)

DONT CUT ANY WIRES if you decide to remove. youtube video is ok for the hydrauilic portion but there is no need to mess with the relays.

Re: ABS system question (s)

Short answer.... maybe When it comes to iABS nobody really knows what the real issue(s) are. I know there are plenty of batteries being replaced for no reason. (it is always the first step). It could be the brake pads. Change the pads if you were going to anyway. It could be a lot of things. In your...

Re: R1150R BMW Integral ABS 1 (iABS1) Removal

I am not sure in your case, but in order to keep the speedometer I had to keep electrical portion. I am not sure if you cut the plug and did the relays, in theory you could have kept the electrical portion for the brake switches alone. Bringing this back from the dead since I don't want to start another thread. (and have very little to add). I have completed iABSectomy couple of years ago, and the only thing that is "unfinished" is the sealing and mounting the "brain". Mine is wrapped with duct tape and zip tie...

Only males brake. I think metal male ends are actually BMW replacement parts starting at some point in time.

You are right about that. I just checked ebay and the ones with good pictures definitely show wear.

Re: Need to Replace a Clutch

Check the status of the clutch fluid at the master cylinder. Take the starter out. Takes 10 minutes. Check the status of the clutch plate for oil contamination. While you are there check for the condition of the splines using the "freeplay" test. Continue based on findings. Spacer only fit...
