Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.

Nice evolution, little nips and tucks.

Sweet red color!

But, all in all, I'm still quite happy with my '07 - I'm actually a bit relieved. I'll wait for the next major upgrade.

I wonder how many of the '11 bits will be easy to adapt to an '07....

Re: R or GS? Help please

I rode my brother's GS for a year and also did a trip in Europe on a GS. When I went to the dealer to check one out, I tested a GS and an R...once I road the R, I was smitten. I don't do much dirt riding - just fire roads. I do 4-5 three-day camping trips a year (800 mile trips), lots of weekend 200...

Re: 2011 CALENDAR PHOTO COMPETITION - PHOTOS ONLY PLEASE

Man, I love this shot.

I'm trying my best to get a shot for this year's calendar...but running out of time. Too much work....as in job. Putting a serious dent in my riding time.

Re: A little tech help please

Great shot of the back end removed. Are you doing the clutch while you're in there?

Too bad I'm in SF today....

Enjoy the maint fun.

Re: A little tech help please

Take lots of pictures - that looks like a fun job....might even be fun to watch with a beer in hand.

The clutch is a no-brainer. So, yellow bitch to storm trooper...what kind of pain job would be appropriate for the sweet R12 that has never let you down ;)

Coastal trip on an R75/5...too cool. Can't wait for the pics of that bike against the coast, redwoods, etc.

Re: How to change the rear brake pads (w/ pictures)

I was monitoring the wear holes on my bike, but still got caught out on a 500 mile two-day trip. So metal-to-metal was the giveaway to me. My rotor is scratched, but not severely so and the new brakes work as well as the old ones. They may wear quicker, but I don't think the wear holes are that help...

Re: Prices

Others may have different experiences, but the best I could do was get things bundled in - side cases and first service. MSRP is common from what I've heard.

Re: Cee Bailey 100mph

I've never had an problems with my 20" Cee Bailey. I've ridden for long stretches at 85mph, very comfortable. I've had my bike at 110mph many times for stretches down the 395, even with side winds. No problem.

Re: How to change the rear brake pads (w/ pictures)

Just had to say that I found this in prep of putting new pads on the rear of my '07 R12 - and it just made it that much easier. Only difference was a cotter pin instead of a C-clip on the retaining pin - but otherwise, very easy DIY. I did make the noob mistake of not taking out some brake fluid fro...

Re: Rotor Wear & Scratches

Thanks for the insight - I figure a $30 pair of pads is worth trying if there isn't a safety or other issue. If it eats them up or I notice any other problems, I can do the rotor. I'd rather save the $ right now. Lesson learned on watching the pad wear.

Re: Rotor Wear & Scratches

I didn't think the rotors could be turned. I've also seen pictures of rear rotors in the some of the replacement DIYs and they don't look any worse than mine. I just don't want to be stupid. Maybe I should post a pic: http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/ss236/spenserj87/iTookThisOnMyPhone%20Private/2...

Rotor Wear & Scratches

I just got back from a two day trip and for the last 30 miles or so, I felt a grinding metal on metal sound when I applied the rear brake. Sure enough, the brake pads are completely gone and the rear rotor is pretty scratched up. Are minor scratches OK or do I need to replace the rotor? The front ro...

Re: Throttle "Lock"

I have a Throttlemeister and love it. Very easy for me to set - I can roll it on with my pinky. You can set the friction point so that it just takes the pressure off holding the throttle in one place, but still easy to move. Obviously you lose the "let go" aspect when using it, but I only ...

A good reminder/perspective. At a minimum, I think offering some key words to search on is always helpful.

Re: Takeing a 1000 mile alone

+1 on SPOT peace of mind; although, you have to be careful - let's say you stop for a long stop - good picture spot, good food place, or any reason, those watching your SPOT may grow concerned that your SPOT track hasn't moved for hours....obviously the "I'm OK" check-in helps. But, I've s...

another +1 on Cee Baily. Good value, sturdy, work well. I know when I fill them up, I can get them shoved into my side bag. Keeps me very organized on camping trips.

Re: Cross country R12R

Also, a quick word of encouragement. I have a 2007 R12 with 7k miles - I don't put up huge annual mileage. Up until last summer, I'd never done more than 200-300 miles in a day and never more than a 3 day consecutive trip. I had no idea what type of mileage I could do on my first cross country trip,...
