Re: Getting old and decrepit question

I test rode a C600S and agree with the assessment above. It felt similar to riding a motorbike, in the form of a scooter. Power was good, clearly not on the same level as the R1200R but I wouldn't hesitate to take it on the freeway. It is heavy but the weight is not really that noticeable. It is, ho...

Annnd that would be me. Gotta have the music going for the commute;) Another SF R12R that I always see is a white or crystal grey one, going up Folsom in the mornings with a Pelican top case and an ADV sticker. Tried talking to him once, but he has ear buds in with music going, so he can't hear me.

Re: Alternator Belt Replacement

I was able to replace the belt pretty easily with the pin punch method that is described on advrider.com. Essentially you stick a pin punch or something similar in a hole to keep the pulley from walking off the lower pulley, while you rotate the crank with your wrench. The belt pops right on. There'...

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

Any ideas why the parts guy at your dealer said it wouldn't work? Maybe they were looking at the older Tuono mirrors?

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

I'll take some pics later but I'll try to describe it. The mirror comes with 2 parts, the clamp base and the actual mirror. The mirror is non-threaded, so it slips into the clamp base and is held there when the base is tightened. The clamp base is threaded and screws directly in the mirror mount on ...

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

Ok, just tried this and it works perfectly. No need to buy the BMW clamps either, because they come with them. Just screw them in and they are good to go. ~$50 total for the whole setup.

Aprilia parts AP8104922 and AP8104921.

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

There is another thread here confirming that these mirrors are identical, check out post #4:

http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/show ... hp?t=34570

I'm going to pick a pair up tomorrow without the BMW clamps and see what's up.

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

I assume the clamps would work as they are the same mirror, but I am going to pick up a pair at my local Aprilia dealer and see for sure ($23 each at my dealer). I have seen these mirrors next to the f800gs mirrors as both of these bikes are in my parking lot at work, and they look identical. If you...

f800gs mirrors on the cheap

So apparently the stock mirrors for the F800GS are the same as the stock mirrors on the Aprilia Tuono, except the Tuono mirrors go for around $25 each (vs >$25 for the same mirrors from BMW). Just a heads up if anyone is looking on replacing their mirrors with these.

Re: So is the OEM topcase rack necessary for touring?

I have the oem tail rack and just screwed a Storm Hardigg case on there using the existing screw holes on the tail rack. It's been there for a year now with no issues, is extremely durable/watertight and cost something like 100 bucks. I also attached some bungie buddies on to the case so I can strap...

Re: MRA VarioScreen again

a) The clear version from Twisted Throttle comes that way. It's black at the bottom and there is a gradient to the rest of the shield which is clear. b) I haven't experienced this problem with the MRA shield. However, I've had the sport shield and the Z-Technik shields previously and I haven't exper...

Re: MRA VarioScreen again

I like the looks of yim4's varioscreen; clear with the tint across the bottom. Do they come that way? I've seen other pics that don't appear to have the bottom tint. Can you give an update on how you like after having it a year? Thanks, Snave I have the clear shield they sell at Twisted Throttle. A...

Re: Warm rear brake rotor?

I think I payed 32 locally at a store, but looks like you can get them for low 20's on the net. Here's the EBC catalogue: http://www.ebcbrakes.com/catalogues.shtml It looks like the model for the R1200R is FA363. Looking closer at this eBay link, it looks like these might not be EBC's (more like EBC...

Re: Warm rear brake rotor?

I havn't purchased from this seller, but it looks like he is just selling EBC brakes. I use a set of EBC for my rear brakes (for the past 9k miles or so) and haven't had any problems. They've outlasted my original OEM pads already.
