Re: Low seats

Low seats throughout the range. I have a low on my 2007 from new, plus a "low comfort" from 2011 - interchangeable with the 2007. The "low comfort" was actually the standard low seat sold in Australia from 2010 (and also sold as the "low comfort"). I actually find the 2...

Re: R1200R leg protectors to eliminate noise/buffeting

Late to this topic, and I see the Wunderlich clear leg / foot protectors are no longer available. BUT - I have had these on my 2007 since 2010, along with Wunderlich clear handshields and the big Cal Sci screen (the set-up is collectively known as the Emperor's New Fairing). They work well at keepin...

Re: Could this be the end of the tele-lever era

oh, bugger. Haven't been here in a while and this is the first thing I see. Sob. I was wondering whether the watercooled boxer would be a good reason to update, now my 2007 hexhead is 7 years old. Now I don't think I will update at all - and if I do, I will probably not buy BMW. I don't care how far...

Re: Which tank bag?

Not sure I see mount available for BMW.. Will another work? My local motorcyle accessories supermarket (Sydney, Australia) had them in stoclk for the R1200GS - should be the same mount since it's the same fuel cap. The ring only needs to fit on/in the fuel cap itself, not conform to the wider tank ...

Re: BMW Motorcycle Reliability Quality Support Failure

Greetings, Caroanbill, Thanks for the compliments on my "meanders." I just got home from a meander yesterday. 6500 miles in the last couple of weeks to S Oregon. IAnd the wrist was never more than an annoyance and is long since better. John, you inspired me to post a couple of trip storie...

Blarney to Killarney - East Australia hills ride

Day 1 Sydney to Rylstone ~350 km A dishy, if disastrous, date has set a spark in me to see what lay across the hills of my childhood. Wolf is up for the adventure and we set out to meet and explore. I’m a little late into Windsor, just outside Sydney, but so is Wolf and we coincide neatly. Coffee, ...

Flat out green - a sort-of outback ride

Somebody sealed the Kidman Way, from Bourke to Jerilderie through Mount Hope in the near-outback near-desert of western New South Wales. The tremulous tourers could now do the newsouthwales sort-of-outback, so we bowed to the inevitable and planned. El nino having ceded to la nina, we’d be dodging f...

GIVI joins the fun

' Nuvver necro-reviver. The SW Motech system is great - I use the small one coz I'm "over" big tank bags. Now, there's a new kid on the block - GIVI Tanklock . It uses a poly-something attachment ring that's less intrusive than the SW Motech alloy ring / hook. Also fits around the fuel fil...

Re: BMW Motorcycle Reliability Quality Support Failure

John First, I love your rambling tales and if I ever meander across the Pacific and get two wheels under me on your side, I'll be re-reading your tales for inspiration! Second, commiserations on your experience - hope the wrist is now all healed up. Third, your dealer is a clown and BMWNA should hav...

"Holy Grail? My master says we already got one - s'verrry nice"

This is indeed verrry nice ... I owned an orginal - Ducati 1982 900ss ( in 1982 ). Not sure I'd want my nice comfy Roadster turned back into a that rolling rack. If I did I'd probably buy the Paul Smart ...

Re: Better MPG

My consumption has been pretty much constant over 5 years / 50,000km on my 2007. I see three 'levels' ... I consistently see 5.2l/100km, about 45mpg (US) as my regular consumption - Calsci screen, BMW panniers, 28l topcase. That's running around 4 - 5,000rpm using the gears for engine braking and cr...

Re: R1200R 2010 Generator Belt

Australian generator belt replacement interval is 24K miles / 40K km. I raised an eyebrow, but the service manager (a very straight-up guy) said that 5 years would be about it anyway - so I said "replace". He showed me the belt - it had gone quite hard compared to the fresh one - so I was ...

Re: ABS Troubles

Content post. :P Great to the ABS being remanufactured! Mine failed at 5 years, long after warranty and was replaced at no cost by BMW Australia. I'm a happy customer, but I got the impression that the probme was only that the ABS unit it wasn't powering up .. it seemed over-kill to throw the whole ...

yep that 1400 qnd labor sounds bout right. bmw reinstated thier more expensive price about 90 days ago, meaning bmw IF YOU CAN GET THEM TO ASSIST -is now offerring less assistence than before. its a very narrow range that qualifys a person for bmw goodwill money. i'd known more and ive known less c...

Re: BMW seats

I have a 2007 with the low seat - now "low bench" or "low sport" depending on your country. Wanted a comfort seat, for the better pillion section as much as the better under-thigh shape. I also tried and tried to get information on the "low comfort" seat ... all a bit c...

Re: FAILED ABS Unit

Sometimes I need the ASC more than the ABS ... Riding it in to the dealer for the repalcement ABS unit this morning, a bit on autopilot but careful not to whack the brakes without ABS (lead brake foot means I'm a bit prone to locking the back without ABS) ... ... gave it the full herbs out of some ...

Re: Newbie with a few questions

On options (new or used) - my two highest tips: 1. Always get ABS if you can. Buyers tend to expect it, so a non-abs BMW can be a bit of an orphan come resale. 2. Panniers. The OEM ones are easily the best I've ever used - so aerodynamic you literally don't notice them, and don't seem to exacerbate ...
